    Re: Chris Thile's Acousticamp 2024

That's kind of been my predicament too- I'm more focused on Scottish/Cape Breton traditional music, not super into bluegrass. I did go to Mandolin Camp North in Massachusetts last year (I would say a...

Judged strictly as music, Monroe’s (instrumental) recording of Turkey In The Straw is one of my favorite mandolin pieces. It’s exciting to me and I find it a lot of fun to play. It can be tough to...

Flinner and Walsh in Galway NY

Caught Matt Flinner and Joe K Walsh in the very small Upstate NY town of Galway, Matt played a lot of banjo, I forgave him for that as they covered Don Stover's "Things in Life" wonderfully.

It has gone in, to pick up sometime next week. Can't wait.
Might take my classical guitar in too, its bridge is lifting and the fret edges are a bit sharp

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tjmX26n1EA

I wasn't sure what I thought about this at first. On one hand, sure, you could say there's too many notes, it's too flashy, too far from the melody and...

Re: post a video of yourself

They have quite different effects. I like both the high sound of the mandolin, and the deeper, fuller sound of the tenor banjo. Well played.

    Re: Approaches to Practice...

    I use Evan Marshall’s approach.

    Of available time:
    10% warmup
30% technical, scales, right hand, etc
    30% new repetoire
    30% old repetoire

    With some variation of course:)

Re: Obessed with the tenor banjo

Enda Scahill is an excellent teacher and your 17 Fret Bacon is a great choice.

Despite my very large hands,I found that 19 fret banjos with perhaps 22-23 inch scale length was quite a stretch.
