I have tried several other luthiers in the valley and still ended up at Gryphon in the end. Now I just go there to begin with. It's worth a few extra hours to make sure it's done properly.

He built an A-style oval hole mandolin last year for me with Irish music in mind. It is perfect.
After several years playing my Dad's old Gibson A-40, I decided it was finally time to have a mandolin made for me. Coincidentally, it arrived just a few days before my birthday!

That actually really helps. It must have been 1965, because by 1968 he had moved to Oregon and I know he bought the mandolin before he moved.
