The Adam Black mandolin shows a truss rod cover. The McNeela does not. That would make me believe the Adam Black was made to a higher standard and has more potential to be adjusted to a better set up.

I have found that I can make my mandolin sound better by handing it to someone else.

I found some old threads. Most believe it is only cosmetic. No tone difference.

If you are hearing a weird sound, check to be sure you aren't accidentally playing a banjo! ;)
