If you have the ability to practice two or three hours a day, you can get that good on every fiddle tune you know. Thank goodness you don't have to be that good to enjoy playing.

Mike Compton has a list. He says there are over 600 Monroe recordings. One thing I don't see mentioned ever is how hard it is to play solos like Monroe where he played on the G and D strings so...

Here's a bunch of opinions on songwriting.
Get some Fender medium and heavies. You can buy them anywhere and they work fine. Then try the others you normally see listed as mandolin picks as you get a chance.
Fifteen minutes a day won't cut it. You will only be able to learn very simple music at that rate of practice.

Yes it comes up often and you can probably carry it on but no guarantees. I carry mine on about 15 to 20 times per year but I have become an expert at being low profile. Airline employees are gods....
