    Re: Pick Talk

When my pick sound changes it's almost always my picking attack that has changed.

A few minutes playing around and I can get the sound back.

D’Andrea Pro Plecs - 385 shape (rounded edge) are...
  2. Re: Anyone compared Fender 346 EXTRA HEAVY with Blue Chip CT55

    Thanks
    Worth a try I think.
  3. Re: Anyone compared Fender 346 EXTRA HEAVY with Blue Chip CT55

Are the Extra Heavy significantly different from the Heavy?

I ask because the Heavy don't work for me.

    Re: 4-string acoustic?

    I can't say for sure.
But there is a "cult" of die-hard supporters on line. His work is pretty to look at after all.
Mine was acoustically dead. Low volume & ugly sounding.

    Mazas! My boyhood friend.
My violin teacher and I spent many hours with him.

The mp3 sounds really good. Great job.

    Re: Flat Wound Strings

    look at these:

    http://emando.com/shop/strings8_flatwound.htm

I'm experimenting with the mandola flatwounds now.
You give up the roundwound sound for sure, but you get a lot of other things....

    Re: Nut Width Preference?

Mandolin nut widths are a big problem for me.
I prefer mandola and ukes for the width.
Not a popular point of view.

    At "mild" setting.
    Hank sounds pretty good.

The instrument part has some vocal bleed but I guess a more...

    Re: A little pickup advice?

    I'm measuring 1/4".
I mounted the pickup in a really unscientific way BTW (and with foam tape).
It turned a poor sounding instrument into something great.

    Re: Gear for Electric Mandolin

Right now just a Tube Screamer clone set lightly enough to thicken the tone.

I've watched a million YouTube videos but every demo is about shredding so it's hard to judge.

    I have this on order:...

Re: Pick thickness - how to choose?

    These:

Dunlop 477P307 Primetone Large Round Tip Guitar Picks, 3.0mm, Black

They call them Primetones for some reason but they are made of a different material and feel totally different.

Re: And now for something completely different

All the ones (that I have seen) have only a bridge pickup.
One pickup is fine - but only a bridge pickup?
Otherwise I really love them also.

I don't like Bruce Springsteen but I've learned to not mention that in my circle of friends.

But this is a wonderful place of discussion. I like A's also.
