Friction over time will wear through the finish. It may avoid nail damage, but you'd be surprised how fast anything continuously rubbing on a thin finish will wear right through it!

Realized I never posted a photo of mine.
Put a pick between your pinky and ring finger, this will ensure your hand is in a "fist" position. Make sure the main part of the pick is inside the fist and not outside scratching on the instrument!
More aesthetically pleasing than a broken headstock, for sure!
Started with a Fender Heavy. A week later bought a Bluechip and that ended my journey.
Stuck in the 70's huh?
You have 15 years to figure out a good response when you bump this thread again.
Last month I carried on a mandolin and a "small personal item" which happened to be packed with 4 days worth of clothes. Carry on costs: zero.
It really all comes down to the employee you're...

An article on it on People Magazine website. Catchy title!
Pretty sure this is an older Gibson A model (per thread title). Those do not have elevated fretboards.
I have a theory that it is the site-owners bot account that periodically "bumps" old posts. (Kidding, but yes he does seem to be stuck on a browser window from 2005-2009)
Didn't she play on a bluegrass legends album this year? Last I looked, this post wasn't about coming out with a bluegrass album. I'm quite sure She is playing bluegrass music weekly at all of the...
$400 is pretty cheap for a mandolin. Guess it boils down to what are doing/who you are sitting around a campfire with. All due respect, a $50 rogue won't quite cut through a couple of guitars and a...

People really need to stop clumping Northfields in with Kentucky, Eastmans, etc. Apples and oranges, folks. Having said that, a used 5FS might be up your alley, and you'll save a few bucks.
Nice! I'm ordering the green case and the leather strap. That looks so classy.

Here's a link to that. It just started as a couple of us wanting to meet up to over a dozen...
I hosted a couple regional cafe gatherings a few years back. Had folks from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania. I think the first one had around 15-20 people. Was fun getting to meet some people and am...
I'd put the case in a case, just in case.
Cut your budget to $11,500 and fly to Nashville...
The way people fret over case durability is kind of crazy. I take my mandolin out of the house every day and don't really worry about it.
Start with a 4 fingered B chord. Same as the G chord just 4 frets closer to the bridge and less distance to span. Once that's comfortable, move a fret at a time towards the G chord.
You have to...
Looks like the case did the job it was supposed to? If I recall, the mandolin was 100% fine so what exactly is the issue?
Practice. Takes a time to adjust to a new instrument.
Where are these samplers currently at?
