My 4th build is similar in response. The E strings are a little quieter than the rest balance-wise. What it really needs is a little more meat in the top, but barring that, I've resorted to stringing...

This may seem obvious, but what did everyone else think? Bass tones tend to be more omni-directional whereas the higher tones project out, so as a player, we don't hear/sense the same frequency...
i just ordered d'adarios xt custom .... instead of the e string being an "11' its an 11.5 ..i dont know if that 1/2 a thousands is going to make a difference ...i have not
got them yet ...but im...
I'll second Adrian's comment about E strings being basically the same from the various brands, so I wouldn't be looking there for a fix. The differences are in the wound strings.
You said your...
There's not much difference between treble strings from various brands. They are mostly the same steel and often from same primary manufacturer of raw wire. so you can think about different gauges...
Never kept notes but my observation is that humidity is the biggest factor in altering tuning
For brighter strings it is usually a matter of taking a bit off of the EQ to compensate. I did have one mandolin where I was able to put a piece of 3M tape just inside the lower F-hole to dampen...
Humidity or the lack of it can cause a 2mm change.
Banjo mandolin .. or a National RM-1?
Frankly it's more about the player and his ability to play classical music on any decent well set-up mandolin than the instrument itself.
... which I've always assumed is because, as opposed to guitarists, "fingerpicking" is a term that mandolinists rarely use, and hardly ever do.
If it helps folks to cartegorize things (which is...
I was thinking about that. Perhaps a term incorporating the drum similarity. The drum you strum, or the strummed drum, or some such. But then the whole lot of drummer jokes might get drawn...
Dang. No Collings, Gibson, Apitius, Mowry, McClanahan. Etc Lacking for sure. Maybe change the wordage to “If there could only be one.” Eliminate the list.
For me it would be either a Collings MF5...
Are you using an ultrasonic humidifier? Try evaporative
California being a Huge Market, to sell stuff there they put a label on it to be in compliance..
Bene-sugg one: dont ingest Ethylene glycol (Base of Polyester fabrics)...
Nice to know: all my instruments are wet tuned.
I used the Inkbird Humidity Controller (Amazon has them for about $40. No financial interest here!) and found it to be very reliable. I also have the Caliber IV to make sure the inkbird switch is...
I'd avoid ultrasonic if you have electronics in the room. They give off a mineral dust (if you're not using distilled water) that will stick to anything electronic. I tried one last winter and first...

Tab preceded standard musical notation.
I understand that. Was addicted to the Hokey Pokey for a while. But I turned myself around. And it seems like "Somewhere Else" is related to a request I get all the time - they keep asking if I can...
when I stop playing & go home.
Pick up a fiddle: when I do, it makes me feel really good about my mandolin playing :)
When I do not feel motivated I check in with my philosophy.
Am I comparing myself with others, instead of comparing myself with where I was?
Do i have some kind of crazy idea a of an...
Go to a jam and play with other people.
