    Re: First Post - Greetings!

Welcome Max. These funny little instruments do present a challenge but since you've been playing guitar for awhile you are already rounding second base. Remember this stuff is meant to be fun,...

    Re: New to Mandolin...What next?

Jack Tottle's "Bluegrass Mandolin" really helped me. Also, learning some simple fiddle tunes or melodies like Old Joe Clark, Wildwood Flower, etc. Another great resource for bluegrass mandolin is...

Mike Compton is a great resource for Monroe's style. He holds camps periodically. Check him out.

    Re: Dumb Calton Question

The inside of the top of my Calton does not touch the bridge of my Randy Wood F 5.

Re: Can anyone recommend a builder to me?

If you want a firs class instrument give Randy Wood a call. He made me an F 5 back in 1993 and it has turned out to be all the mandolin I every wanted or will need.

    Re: Safe(-ish) stand/s for fiddle + mandolin?

I have three ProLine stands for my mandolins and really like them. They are well made and well padded in the right places.
  21. Re: Do you take your best or most valuable mandolin to gigs?

The answer is yes. Why have a great instrument if you don't show it off and play the snot out of it? I take my Martin D28 and my Randy Wood F5 whenever I gig or just go to a local jam.

    Re: Should I trade up?

I agree with GMorgan. Play it for awhile, see if you get better and then that may tell you if you want a better instrument. Be warned that eventually MAS will get you as it has gotten the majority...
  24. Re: I have MAS and check the classified hourly…

My MAS was cured, well abated some, when I was fortunate enough to get a Randy Wood F 5. I still visit this site multiple times a day because it's interesting.
