  1. Re: How to use more right wrist and minimal right arm?

Stand in a doorway and pin your right arm between your body and the door opening. Now move your hand up and down at the wrist to get the feel of how it should move.

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

As long as we grow artichokes in this country I know there will not be a food shortage.
  3. Re: IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year Finalists for 2018

It might be hard for me to technically define bluegrass but I know it when I hear it. I would say I've heard all of the nominees play some bluegrass at one time or another.

    Re: Pentatonic question

You can work in slides and pull offs and even some blues notes as you progress. It's not as limiting as you might think at first.

    Re: Pentatonic question

You can play just the notes in the G pentatonic scale through the whole song. You may not match the melody of the tune note for note but you won't hit any notes that will sound "wrong". In essence,...

Re: Why Do Festivals Hire The Wrong Sound Guys?

    [QUOTE=TonyP;1188609]
We are blessed here on the Left Coast that one man, Paul Knight, has literally changed the whole way sound is done, and how it sounds on stage and in the audience. He often...

    Re: Play Every Note?

Right! I like to keep fiddle tunes to a dancing tempo. That's what they were written for,
    supposedly.
  10. Re: How many of you have successfully changed your hand position?

The thing that affects my tone the most is tension in my hands and wrist. I'm constantly working on keeping the hands relaxed and using as little pressure on gripping the pick and fretting the...

    Re: buzz and string questions

Yes, and since the G string is a bit thicker on the D'Addario strings you may need to raise the bass side of the bridge by a quarter turn or two to correct the buzzing against the frets.

Stan also played the mandolin. Don't know if he used the right techniques or not. I have a hunch though.

Re: So I bought a Blue Chip pick-my impressions

Buying a quality mandolin, paying for a good setup to make it sound it's best, and then skimping on a cheap pick makes no sense to me.

Re: My review of the Mandolin Cafe ball cap...

I like the black but would also like to see a sunburst model. Also you might consider adding a truss rod to keep the bill from bending..
  16. Re: Re-doing the nut slot pairs closer together...

I had mine done professionally. Also be aware of any fret wear that exists under the current string spacing and where that wear will be under the new spacing. You may have to dress the frets to get...

Re: Anyone else play a Summit?

I guess I just prefer a more natural look over all sunbursts. But that's just me.
