Thanks, that was pretty cool.
Thanks but that sounds like the version of Goin to Brownsville on his first record with percussion, electric slide and all behind the mandolin.
I don't think it's taken live from his playing on the video. But I did see him do it live, solo, in about 1976.
That version was one of my "learners" when I started, along with "Billy the Kid" off his second album.
The girl I love got long black curly hair all down her back.
I just wish it was on her head.

Yeah, that's the studio version, regardless of the visuals. A transformative piece of music for me - first time I'd heard mandolin played with that much strength, variety, and imagination, and rarely equalled since. Cme along just at the right time. Live versions from later are also great, but what he does on this take is extraordinary. It's my touchstone for a mandolin sound.
He had a lot of good, pointed observations as well throughout this video. Good find! :mandosmiley:
Moin René, wie geht´s denn so? :) Nice Video.
That was a great video, thanks for posting it!
Here is the solo version of Ry playing " Goin' to Brownsville" that has been posted many times before but never gets old...
