How Ricky Skaggs Got His 24 Gibson Loar F5 while in The New South
No axe to grind here with Ricky Skaggs: love him to death! I've been curious how a guy playing bluegrass, and sometimes working part time could afford a Loar at that stage of his career. I stumbled on this piece that tells the story. Pretty interesting read that I thought I would share.
The kicker: the guy selling the Loar was obliged to sell it
because his wife wanted a new washer & dryer; Brother!

I did do a search on the forums and couldn't find anything close.
For those who'd like to see that Loar in action shortly after he got it

Cool story. I guess I wonder how the average bluegrasser buys a Loar today. Ricky had 10% and borrowed the rest. Today, I would need $17,500 down, and borrow $157,500 to buy the Loar listed in the classified. I can't do it. It doesn't matter. I can't pick like Ricky anyhow.

Bob, I`ve seen and heard you pick, don`t put yourself down, you can hang in there with any one else....
