Leather shoulder Strap Pad
Is anyone aware of a padded leather shoulder strap pad that will fit a 3" wide strap? If not, perhaps a custom strap maker that does custom work.
I really like my leather straps, but a nice padded leather strap pad would add to the comfort.
I could just purchase new straps, but I really like the ones I have.

I can’t imagine why you’d want a shoulder pad (or a 3 inch strap) for mandolin so I assume it’s for something else.
I have several straps made by Pinegrove Leather here in the UK (they ship worldwide) - https://www.pinegroveleather.com. If you can’t find anything that suits, I’ve found them very accommodating in the past and maybe they would make you something up.

Saw this in today's Cafe ads. I don't know if it's what you want. If not, the person mentions the maker's name. She might have a greater selection.

Re: ?Leather shoulder Strap Pad?
Hire one made by your local leather crafts person or shoe repair guy?
2" wide common guitar straps are a larger market than a 3" wide one ..
I have a Velcro On pad from the bicycle Messenger bag making company Timbuk2
On a 2" Strap for heavy solid body guitars , Etc..
Acoustic mandolins are not that heavy , you looking for one for a banjo?
sheep skin fleece?

Thanks
Though it is 3 inches wide (not padded) I still find it sometimes uncomfortable. I have a lot of arthritis in my neck and shoulders presumably from way too many hours on a tennis court over a 50 year period. We travel with an RV trailer and frequently stay in naturists resorts. Perhaps having the strap over a bare shoulder is problematic, yet perhaps not as I do often find it uncomfortable even when not on bare skin.
I don't know if a pad would help or not but I get to the point where I'm willing to experiment with any little improvement.
Re: ?Leather shoulder Strap Pad?
My mandolin straps are all half an inch wide but, then, I don’t ever remember playing with bare shoulders. My main “F” style also has a Toneguard!
Re: ?Leather shoulder Strap Pad?
I'd be tempted to try something like this. Also, check out stores that sell backpacking items.
Re: ?Leather shoulder Strap Pad?
My local Goodwill outlet carries a constantly-varying slew of used & empty nylon cases, most of them originally from PCs and in almost-new condition. Many have substantial straps with removeable & re-purposeable (is that a word?) shoulder pads. For $7 or so, it can't hurt to look.
(Personally, I find the cases just right for organizing chord charts and/or sheet music, with a separate case for each group or genre.)

The trouble with movable shoulder pads is they move wether you want it to or not.
Can't see why a small instrument like a mandilin would need one.

The one on my electric guitar strap is a pain ‘cos it moves every time I use it.
As for not seeing the need for one on a mandolin, perhaps this is because it seldom gets hot enough in Yorkshire to take your shirt off!
Re: ?Leather shoulder Strap Pad?
I have found that attaching the strap at the body of an instrument makes the strap pull down on your shoulder. Attaching it to the headstock makes the strap pull across your back, much more comfortable. The heavier the instrument the more noticeable it is.

Maker is Martha Crow who sells on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/listing/6476419...by-martha-crow
Seems to me a 3" strap would be uncomfortable, especially if it's not very, very soft, the edge would probably dig into my neck. I use round braided straps, pretty thin but very soft and very comfortable.

I can understand how any one may have difficulty understanding, but try to imagine where even wearing a necklace can contribute to pain level felt on a daily basis.
I'm thankful I never became addicted to the banjo.

I would contact Sully at sullysstraps.com.
He will get you what you need. And another PA talent as well!
Re: Leather shoulder Strap Pad
Plus one for Sully Straps - I have several and love them. He does great straps with shoulder pieces for banjo, guitar and dobro that don't slip... and he offers a discount for nudist mandolin players
