Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
Thanks so much, Steve. I had a V-pick once but had no idea there were so many choices. I''ll check into them again.
The Golden Gate (guitar-style, not mando-rounded) journey continues. So far they're a good combo as mentioned above. I think, too, there's something to be said for how picks compliment a mandolin. These like a good match for mine.
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
Kevin, your link appears not to work. I used to play GG mandolin picks and reshaped them to my liking. Now I am playing Apollo (peek 1.4mm) and Primetone picks.
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
GG Mando & Dawg Picks are pretty much the same (I have both).. As I see it. just the GG are more widely available , .. thru Saga..

Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
Thanks Everyone.
Yes, I like that they are more widely available. Interestingly, I also bought ProPlec guitar shaped picks but don't like them as much. I think it's due to the different finish on them. I was surprised the ProPlecs didn't have the same gloss as the larger picks do.
The only thing is, we'll see how long the Golden Gates hold up. My sense is OI may burn through them pretty quickly. However, I also lose lots of picks, so maybe it's the right marriage, lol.
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
As someone who has used both Dawg and Golden Gate mandolin picks for years, I was curious to see what these were like, and yes, that link was severely busted.
Try this one:

My main use for both picks was for playing quietly in airports. I found out that if you didn't pluck hard, both picks gave a nice tone that was remarkably low volume. When stuck in an airport for a few hours between flights, I'd find an empty gate, sit in the back, and play for quite a while. Then back to work with a much better mindset.
I might have to try the more angular pick to see how it sounds, at volume, as I do like using both the Dawg and GG picks in their rounder form.
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
I use a bluechip, but keep some of the goldengate large triangles in my case as a backup

They now come in a few different stiffnesses? And 3 shapes…
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
I like the clown barfs—have no idea if they are the same material: https://reverb.com/item/42489142-gol...-heavy-12-pack
Re: Golden Gate Guitar Picks
I play a wide variety of picks, including Blue Chip, Wegen, Red Bear, and various. The Golden Gate triangle Heavy pick in clown barf is a nice pick and I have 2. For a few years, I played the V Pick Saga mandolin pick. That one is hard to beat. My current favorite is the Wegen M150 in black. These are easy to get a smooth release on the up and down strokes, and are thick enough to get a nice, round tone. Who knows what I will prefer in a year?
