New Videos: Mike Compton & Michael Daves
For those who enjoyed Compton's words and music on the Monroe/DeFord Bailey fiddle tune, Evening Prayer Blues (here is the original story and videos of that), here's a new one. Also an interesting bit of country/bluegrass history. The first, or at least one of the first country hit recordings (in its original version by Vernon Dalhart).

I believe that Michael will release a couple more from that show, and I will share them here when he does. I really enjoyed producing them!
Re: New Videos: Mike Compton & Michael Daves
Michael notes:
"The Prisoner's Song," incidentally was the first million-selling country hit, recorded in 1928 by Vernon Dalhart. Vernon was originally from Texas, but resided in Brooklyn. So we can deduce that commercial country music originates in Brooklyn, right? Mike nails the mandolin break from Bill Monroe's 1951 recording, which brings me much glee.

Here's one more with Compton singing the lead on the choruses. You can find the instrumentals on Michael's YT channel.
Enjoy.

Re: New Videos: Mike Compton & Michael Daves
A heads up for those who enjoyed these videos or my Mandolin Cafe story on Evening Prayer Blues and DeFord Bailey - the boys are playing together in NYC - Friday June 22 in one of the best rooms in the City - Rockwood Music Hall Stage II, link HERE. They don't get together too often, so if this floats your boat, I'd grab a ticket soon.
Here's an artist rendering of what the duo will look like:

Re: New Videos: Mike Compton & Michael Daves
Wow....Compton was sure channeling some Wakefield on The Prisoner's Song, while still retaining his own character!
Re: New Videos: Mike Compton & Michael Daves
Just a reminder that the boys play a rare duo gig in NYC tomorrow, Friday June 22, 2018. Details in the post above.
And here's another video from their gig a couple years back.

There's also a video of TN Blues with Statman & Daves online if you'd like to compare and contrast.
