One of the two cavaquinho variants played in keroncong music from Indonesia. I always forget which one is the cak and which one is the cak. Quite rare to see, but not worth that price, especially in it's condition.

Turns out this is the cak with 4 steel strings in 3 courses (in the centre in video), and the cuk is the 3 nylon stringed one (on the right in the video). The letter c is pronounced as a 'ch' sound in Bahasa Indonesia.
Interesting take on the zero fret. Looks like a matchstick.

The strings on the "bass" ... are they really supposed to be that slack? Never seen that before.
Looks like a bit of a lash-up. Is that an actual zero fret lurking between the matchstick and the nut? Perhaps the nut was replaced with something too high and they inserted the matchstick for unbeknown reason?
As for strings, I’ve no idea how it is tuned but they all look the same gauge to me
Good eye. They both look to be at a bit of a slant - so not permanently affixed. Or if so, not well done. Would affect tuning, at least somewhat. Unless not in contact with strings, in which case, why is it there? Note that the one being played in the video has something there, too.
Wonder about its purpose? :confused:
