Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
The first 2:30 of this video has some of the most brilliant playing I've ever heard. I didn't listen to the other versions on the video.
I heard this on the public radio station today--didn't give any album or recording credit. This isn't the whole cut. Just knocked me right out. This is all I could find on ytube.

Awww, Steve Goodman. He should have been able to hang around Planet Earth a whole lot longer. Go, Cubs, Go.
Some fine mandolin-playing on that cut too.
Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
I loved that. I saw Goodman only once, a bluegrass festival in 1974 in Virginia. Came out and smoked ‘Goody Goody’, the crowd didn’t know what to think. I think they were waiting for the Stonemans.
Left way too soon.

Read the Goodman biography if you can find it......and then dump Burns on top. Just damn..........
Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
He was a good one for sure. Saw him a couple of times and one time John Prine stopped in and and joined him on stage as he had just played a gig down the road. Jethro died young at 68. Oh my.

There was, nor ever will be, another Harry Carey!
Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
Jethro Burns could absolutly play the snot out of a mandolin.
Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
There is no question about Jethro but for those unfamiliar with Steve Goodman as a guitarist and entertainer I can tell you that watching Steve do a 3 hour set by himself, with a cold, in Eugene, Oregon in the late 70's was without a doubt the best concert I ever saw. Ever and I'm old and have seen most of the great ones at one time or another. If Jethro had been with him it would have been even better but Steve Goodman was the single best entertainer I ever watched. He was gone way too soon and the fact that Jethro would play with Steve speaks volumes for his talent.
I'm going off to watch Steve play a "Dying Cub Fan's Final Request".
Re: Jethro & Steve Goodman "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
I was lucky enough to see Steve and Jethro performing together at 2 different editions of the Philly Folk Fest in the mid 70's. Those two were always joking, and both could play so well. Jesse's Jig album was a revelation and my intro to Jethro and Steve's magic act.
