NMD Gibson A-1 from 1912!
Hey all, bought this new Gibbie off Reverb, and it looks like it’s barely been played! Sounds amazing as well, have wanted one of these for a long, long time!! Link to pics: https://imgur.com/gallery/VwbvVDK
On a side note, have any of you ever had any issues with the single action truss rod in the neck? I’ve read they barely have any issues, but still, I’d like to ask myself.
Re: NMD Gibson A-1 from 1912!
That mandolin doesn’t have a truss rod.

Looks great! Love oval A mandolins. Probably why I have my OldWave. I would love one of those old girls as well!

Thanks John! Yours looks real good too, I’ve actually never heard much of Old Wave, they look really nice for sure!

Wow, looks like it just came off the factory floor! How does it sound?

It sounds fantastic! There’s a great balance across all the courses; no excessive bassiness (that can plague these old Gibsons) on this one! It’s got a great tone to it, sometime soon when I record a tune, I’ll get something for ya!

Comhghairdeas - nice looking old A there!
Re: NMD Gibson A-1 from 1912!
Bill is correct, no truss rods in Gibson mandolins until 1922 but with much beefier necks, truss rods were not needed in earlier mandolins. No worries on that front. Congratulations and enjoy!!

It looks very nice. It's amazing that it looks so pristine after all these years. Congrats on the find!

IrishPicker10: That is certainly a well-preserved >100 year old Gibson! I hope you play the potatoes out of it. It may pick up some distressing, but it needs - is begging - to be played hard!
