Mandolin Café Women's History Month
Congratulations and thank you to Scott and everyone at the Mandolin Café who had a hand in honoring women mandolinists during Women's History Month! :mandosmiley: The banner looks absolutely fabulous! The contributions of women to the world of mandolins are many, varied, and often splendid, worthy of being honored every day of the year. The ongoing and very popular Women With Mandolins thread is one such way, and with its 2900 posts and over a million views during its 15-year history, it demonstrates how much care and devotion to the subject and cause the largely male membership here provides. But adding to this consideration through the efforts of the staff here is a higher level of respect. Thanks again, Mandolin Café! :mandosmiley:

I agree! The banner was the first thing I noticed when I logged on this morning.
This is my first post and as a proud father of two daughters- one a guitarist and the other an claw hammer banjo player- I certainly appreciate the cafe’s recognition of these incredible musicians!
Re: Mandolin Café Women's History Month
Welcome to the Café! :mandosmiley: Now, if you could just convince one of them to pick up the mandolin ... or is that your duty in the family band? ;)
Re: Mandolin Café Women's History Month
Yep- that is my duty, along with being the finance director, bank, roadie, tour manager! Both are in college!

Donna is such a nice lady. Love the banner!
Very nice.

Here's a few from olden days from my collection to go along with that wonderful modern banner:
Re: Mandolin Café Women's History Month
Oh my! How delightful! My favorites are the first - what a trio of instruments, including the harp-mandolin - and the last one, the young lady with a mandola almost as big as herself. :) Have these already made their way to the Women With Mandolins thread? Because they should. Also, isn't there a thread on vintage photos? There's a place for them there, too.
So it seems you are not just a mando-accumulator, but a mando-photo-accumulator. Noble endeavors, indeed! :mandosmiley:
Oh, and I do want to mention that the photo in the banner of Lorraine Duisit is the very same image that appears in the original post of the Women With Mandolins thread. Thanks to Jim Simpson for getting that going, and choosing her to start it. :mandosmiley:

Thanks for the shout out! I noticed the photo of Lorraine too! She's great! https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...with-Mandolins
Re: Mandolin Café Women's History Month
I had a lot of fun hanging out with Lorraine way back in the 1980s. She was the staff assistant in the one and only Jethro class at Augusta. What a week!
as for the photos I think I posted many in that antique photo thread and in an album on Facebook.

Trapezoid played at a church on the New Haven Green in the early 80s. They knocked me out. I chatted with Lorraine a bit afterward, Freyda Epstein, too. Both very charming and pleasant to talk with. There may have been twenty people at the show. I'm pretty sure the only reason I went was because I'd seen a poster with her mandola featured prominently, the same photo as the cover of "Now & Then" - which I owned, for some unknown reason. Man, that was a good album.
The Jethro class is where you learned that chord, right? ;)
