Had to travel up to my corporate lab and the hotel carpeting has me now thinking of notes on the fretboard...I have stayed here countless times over the past year and never noticed until this trip. I got my first mandolin for Christmas, brought it along to practice at night. Immediately saw the carpet when I arrived and just laughed.

Have you tried playing that arrangement, Alan? Looks quite an interesting set of notes, and really uses the whole fingerboard!

Well...I recognize now that I have the disease. I just needed affirmation from the folks here! It is interesting to me how I see these kinds of things now..in places I would not otherwise given a second look.
I laughed last night when I went to navigate my iPad with my left hand [am right handed so never do that] and could not feel the screen under my fingertip.....I guess the practice is at least paying off in that regard!

I have always marveled at the hideous colors and designs of hotel and movie theater carpeting. I suppose it is to hide 'stains'?
You are lucky to live in an area where you can easily obtain a 'fix' for your MAS. My best advice, avoid the Mando Cafe Classifieds, (if you can) it will only fuel the fire.

There is a slight point of concern. In another thread where I was at someone as they put it was "schizophrenia", as they were also intrigued by the octave mandolin. The point is were it not for my small hands they would have infected me to, that is why "schizophrenia" is not the illness. My concern is that it is not schizophrenia, but TWSAS "things with strings: acquisition syndrome" Reason for saying that: there is a music store I discovered in my home town, in there is a ukulele. I found myself gathering all information about a ukulele last night. Very educational, but my family thought I was only in to another mando, now? I have not even mentioned my interest in the ukulele - and I will not for reasons that should be obvious - so I fear madness? acquisition syndrome? there is no cure.

Many, many years ago Steve Allen had a TV variety show. Among other things he was a prolific song writer and a great pianist.
One of the bits on his show I recall quite clearly. People would send in photographs of telephone wires, split rail fences, etc., where birds have landed.
The general shape of the lines and birds certainly looked like music, and he would play whatever people had photographed on his piano. It was pretty entertaining. Some of it was actually pretty nice, but I contribute that to his piano ability, not the placement of the birds.
