Adding that all up comes to $550, rounded up, plus shipping. He could get more than twice that for the whole thing in one piece. :confused: Maybe he bought it just to get the pots and knobs for another one, and all he can do without them is sell the pieces. Eh. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? (Or eBay sellers ...)

Why does he do it?
1] He likes to take things apart.
2] He thinks that he'll make more on the separate items when the bidding is over.
He may indeed sell some stuff, but he won't get rich. I've seen others try to make a living by parting out instruments. Few of them end up in the high rent district.
And yes, he would probably make more if he reassembled the instrument.

Pots and knobs are there, just not listed for mandolin. Go to the seller's store and you'll see them.
Looking at his store, he apparently does this to everything. Does have a lot of sales, so it must work for him. (Assuming most of those 35,000+ sales are instrument parts).
