Adding that all up comes to $550, rounded up, plus shipping. He could get more than twice that for the whole thing in one piece. Maybe he bought it just to get the pots and knobs for another one, and all he can do without them is sell the pieces. Eh. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? (Or eBay sellers ...)
"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? (Or eBay sellers ...)"
...the shadow knows.
The knobs and electrical harness are listed among his other items.
Why does he do it?
1] He likes to take things apart.
2] He thinks that he'll make more on the separate items when the bidding is over.
He may indeed sell some stuff, but he won't get rich. I've seen others try to make a living by parting out instruments. Few of them end up in the high rent district.
And yes, he would probably make more if he reassembled the instrument.
Martin, you might want to think about giving yourself a break from ebay. It'll make your hair fall out . . .
Pots and knobs are there, just not listed for mandolin. Go to the seller's store and you'll see them.
Looking at his store, he apparently does this to everything. Does have a lot of sales, so it must work for him. (Assuming most of those 35,000+ sales are instrument parts).
From their Shop Page:
"About us
How many of you guitar players have always wanted to build a custom project with name brand parts and project guitars without spending a fortune to dismantle a full guitar. We are your opportunity to do so. We sell name brand parts and project guitars for the purpose of building your own projects."
I do not take kindly to being called "dude."
I don't know what it's like where you live, but in my part of the world, it can be construed as an insult.
I thought better of you than that.
"El Duderino" can be considered a term of respect around our patch of CenTex.

It's a good thing you didn't say, "bubba." I understand that throughout most of the South it's insulting, or at least condescending. In the Keys, it's a term of endearment, mostly, the equivalent of "pal" or "buddy." This usage is, as I said, rare and localized, and I have had to stop myself from using it when I have ventured away.
"Dude" used to be very insulting, though I thought that was long ago, like during the Wild West days, when it meant "greenhorn" or "poseur." It saw a resurgence in the 80s-90s, reaching a point where it was so often used that it was made into an ad campaign - for what, I don't remember - in which people would have whole conversations using just the one word, but with inflections to indicate what it meant. One of my best friends, which friendship dates to that time, still refers to me that way, with what is nothing other than affection. So the usage here went right past me. I didn't think Martin meant anything other than "pal" or "buddy."
All right, I'll shut up now. :whistling:
Well, it all adds up to a little over $1400 ... but the same amount could have been earned with a lot less work. Whatevah.
