Made in Chicago Museum Site
A friend of mine needed and image match from an old photo of a guitarist and I guessed Harmony/Sears and found this interesting site obviously in its early stages. I don't recall anyone posting from this in the past though it is quite possible. Never bad to repeat though, right?
Harmony, Hammond Organ, and J. C. Deagan seem to be the only musical instrument manufacturers that have any content but there are pages set up for Lyon & Healy, Slingerland Drum Company, Regal, and Tonk Brothers, although I may have missed some.
Surely they need: Larson Brothers, Joseph Bohmann, John Brandt, Stromberg-Voisinet/Kay and quite a few others plus some retailers.
Re: Made in Chicago Museum Site
This page also has some Harmony info.

The made In Chicago Museum has been posted before but I can't remember when. It's always good.
Yeah, I know the guy that posted it

You could easily spend a half hour zooming in and poking around each image.

Easily. I'm wondering if they add to that page as additional images surface.
Re: Made in Chicago Museum Site
Those old pictures are pretty cool. Old tools. By todays standards . Thanks for posting that.

As many times as I've looked at that Harmony tour over the years I never noticed that mandolin on the bench in front in the 7th picture down. That could be a game changer as well I guess. I never knew they built those.
Re: Made in Chicago Museum Site
That image caught my eye, too, Mike, for a couple reasons. I zoomed in and in to try and figure out those jigs at the foot of the workbench which look like they are for gluing the tops onto bowlbacks. Very curious contraptions.
Yes...the bi-wood bowlback staves... I had thought that was a Lyon and Healy thing, and pre-1900. If this is truly 1904 at Harmony that does reshuffle the cards quite a bit.
