How fun, I met my mandolin instructor - Sharon Gilchrist
What a treat; I got to visit with Sharon Gilchrist at Ucross, Wyoming last weekend. She, Darol Anger, and Laurie Lewis were there as artists in residence, and gave a really nice show before they left for other parts.
She is a super nice person, and it was so much fun to chat with her about mandos. I've got old ears, and she graciously checked mine out for buzzes, rattles or weird notes that I couldn't hear. She said "all is good".
For those of that you that don't know, Sharon teaches mandolin on line through Peghead Nation. Hah hah I'm biased. NFI, but I've improved as a player through her intermediate lessons. Specifically for me; better left and right hand technique, fluidity, speed, and some really cool licks! I love the second part of Ashland Breakdown that she shows! She really does make the seemingly hard stuff doable.
I'm an old guy, and she proves we can learn some new stuff.
Cheers,
Bill Bradshaw

I was enjoying the thought of her checking out your ears...

Could she fix the rattle in my ears too?

Back in 2009, my wife and I stopped in Santa Fe for a couple of days on a cross country drive. One day, I found my way to a bluegrass jam session that Sharon was leading. She was very nice and welcoming to me, and I've never forgotten her graciousness.

neat story and picture. i also take her mandolin classes at PegHead and she just has a way to easily reach you with understanding, keeps it fun, and smooth progression. i love Peghead classes, they have some great teachers(taking clawhammer and resonator also)
