Providence Mandolin Orchestra Benefit Concert, 8-29-2021

The Providence Mandolin Orchestra (PMO) will return to live performance with a benefit concert (free will offering) on the lawn at North Meadow Farm, 158 East Old Route 6, Hampton CT, on Sunday, August 29, at 4:30 PM EDT. This is the first of several planned performances over the next 2-3 years or so (pandemic-dependent) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the modern PMO in the early 1970s. The program will feature music from the three main periods of PMO history -- the original PMO, founded by William Place Jr in 1911 and lasting until around 1919; the Providence Plectral Society, founded by Hibbard Perry in 1930 and lasting until 1942; and the modern PMO, founded by Perry in the early 1970s and led by him until his retirement in 1989, when the present director, Mark Davis took over.
