Sounds great Skip! Hope OH is treating you well, but feel free to come back to NC ;)

Hi Drew! I'm getting Skip's most recent A5 #79 tomorrow. Very excited! Listened to a few of your videos to get an idea of his work and tone. So thank you for sharing those!

Awesome! Glad that helped. My #54 sounds way better now in my opinion that in did when I got it. May be my playing or 'opening up' or whatever (see countless discussions elsewhere on the forum about that lol) but either way....I loved it when I got it but I like it even more now.
Congrats on your new mando!

First post here after decades of lurking.
I am the happy owner of Skips #062, a wonderful A5 from 2017. The mandolin in the video looks and sounds great. As always.
I am wondering at what point in the build did you put color on the top?

Hey Brad, did you get the Kelly today? I see it is still listed on the Mandomutt website as unsold?

I did! Kevin shipped it Monday via UPS ground, and it made its way from Raleigh NC to Rogers AR (that's Arkansas, not Arizona) in just under 48 hours! Guess he just hasn't updated the site yet.
Here's what I sent Kevin just a bit ago: First impressions, I love it! Just a fantastic playing and sounding mando! Definitely punches above its weight in terms of price point. I'm sold on Skip's quality of work, attention to detail, and really dialing in a winning combo of materials and hardware! That top sounds nice and played in already, and I'm sure it'll only get better with time and miles.
I was going to make a NMD post, but I was so enamored with playing it, the sun went down before I could get a photo in natural light. I think the finish really is fantastic and needs to be captured with a good photo. Overall, it plays like a dream and the tone is spot on what I was hoping for. Has that dry, woody bluegrass bark, but also has a full, harmonically rich tone at the same time. I don't know how Skip's not got a bigger reputation yet, but I can see why folks that have played one are singing his praise.

Drew, Ohio is nice, but I do miss NC! After all, I lived there since I was born. You are welcome to come visit up here!

I sanded the mandolin before stringing up and then stained the top black.

Thanks Brad for the compliments! I do the best I can and I give God the glory for the mandolins.

Brad, I’d love to hear you play it.
