Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin
Hi all,
I'm so excited by the new mandolin I just received from genius luthier, Oliver Apitius. In my opinion, there is no mandolin that is better suited to Jazz. And it plays like a dream. I wanted to share with you a little video of the mandolin in action. I hope you enjoy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPaO9LkZ0vY

Great as always. My left hand hurts just watching :)
It looks like the fingerboard markers are unusually placed and different than on his website. Was that a special request?

Good eye. Yea, I'm so used to the little mother of pearl dots that I asked for those.

What a musical treat. Congrats on the new mando.
Hearing this and other Apitius mandos (Forrest O'Conner's is amazing) helps one realize what a special builder he is.
Love the headstock as well.

Re: Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin
Wow . Excellent choice sir. I was so pleased when I learned that Apitius mandolins were again being made. This particular model fascinates me. But my wallet hides in the dresser when I consider becoming more instrument poor than I already am. Enjoy your new tool / friend. Always a pleasure to hear you play. R/

Aaron,
I'm not one to name my instruments but I'd be tempted to call that one "Bucky."

'Genius Luthier, Oliver Apitius' and a genius performance by Aaron Weinstein (even without a deadpan comedy routine)!!

Great! The single cutaway design looks really good.

For those that would like to know more about this model, here's a reprint on the Apitius Yorkville republished from DownBeat Magazine in 2019.

Re: Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin
I just made a little video for the folks at Peghead Nation discussing the instrument and playing it a bit, both acoustically and amplified. I'll share that here as soon as they post it.

Aaron, it looks like you went with the humbucker option rather than the K&K. Could you please explain why you made that choice?
Thanks.

Re: Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin
Hi James,
Oliver developed this pickup specifically for this mandolin and I'm thrilled with the results. It's the first amplified mandolin I've heard that has the sound I've been looking for. I'll be posting additional videos of the mandolin plugged in, played solo to give a better sense of its tone in this context. As for the K&K, I've never used one though I've heard nothing but great reports.
