RIP Arthur Stern
I haven't seen it mentioned here, but Arthur was a friend to everyone in the mandolin world and a brilliant artist. He was a long time forum contributor and a fountain of knowledge and experience with some of the finest mandolins that have ever been produced. His collaborations with Lawrence Smart are the pinnacle of design. RIP SternArt.

Re: RIP Arthur Stern
What a punch to the gut. I got to meet and hang out with Arthur at a Mandolin Symposium. Thanks to the Cafe it was like we had known each other for years. He was kind, generous, and I admired his passion for this instrument we all love. I'll be playing some Dawg music this weekend in his honor.

Looks like it was sudden. His Facebook page had a posting on the 21st of September. I am shocked. Haven't seen him here in a bit, but it's very sad to hear that he is gone.

Re: RIP Arthur Stern
I visited Arthur's home once more than a decade ago, when I was living in the Bay Area. He was hosting a mandolin get together.
I got to see his stained glass artwork at his studio. Amazing stuff. He was as proud of his stereo system as he was of his Monteleone Radio Flyer. Both of them were amazing as well.
Arthur himself was jovial and kind.
I later recognized the cover art on Andy Statman's and David Grisman's Mandolin Abstractions album as being Arthur's work. I'm glad all his work is still out there. It's a fitting tribute.
Damn. He will be missed.

Re: RIP Arthur Stern
I was deeply saddened and shocked to receive this news. Arthur was a brilliant artist and a true friend for over 40 years. His studio/home in Oakland was our playroom and hangout in the early days of the quintet. His stellar contributions to the world of architectural glass will live on, but I'll miss his unique wit and kind spirit. He passed peacefully in his sleep and I'm grateful for that. Much love to you Arthur.

Re: RIP Arthur Stern
Sad and surprising news! When I was new to mandolin in the co-mando listserve era, Arthur was a welcoming and supportive Bay Area mandolin community member and I continued to count on his presence through the Mandolin Symposium era, his mandolin get-togethers at his studio, and random sightings in more recent years. I found my forever Lawrence Smart mandolin after playing Arthur's. Driving by Benicia recently, I wondered if he would have the mandolinists to his studio again once COVID was no longer such a risk. Now I know the answer. David Grisman has lost his biggest fan and the mandolin community has lost a real player.

Re: RIP Arthur Stern
Like many here, I met Arthur at the Symposiums I attended. I am sorry I never made it up to his Studio.
A passionate mando guy.
