    Re: Donna Stoneman’s birthday today

Thanks for the post Gary. Although I've been a Mandolin Cafe member since 2004 I've only been playing for two years and I'm just becoming acquainted with the mandolin greats. So now I know about...

    Re: Multi-Instrumentalist's Advice?

There's a great interview right here with a multi-instrumentalist who has managed to be great on many instruments while maintaining a full-time job outside of music. My take-away is that it's about...

Re: A Turkish oud I've just finished

Very nice! I had never heard of an oud until last Thursday at a concert in the park. There was a classical guitarist performing who played a lute on a couple of songs. He said it's predecessor was...

Maybe somewhere around five years more or less. Then you're experienced and pretty good or maybe not so good lol.
  7. Working on tremelos. Good trick or am I cheating myself?

In my search for tips on playing tremolos I'm often led to archived Mandolin Cafe threads. Some mention using one of the fatter edges of the pick. I've tried it and it works great! I'm just wondering...

Re: Why/how did you start playing mandolin?

Over a decade ago I was at an auction trying to buy a guitar but was being out bid at every turn. I saw an old handmade mandolin on a table of junk and ended up getting it for $7.00. When I got it...

There's a live version of Tom Petty doing this song. I haven't been able to find it on Youtube. I love the song.

I definitely credit Baron Collins-Hill for getting me started on my way. I have a list of my ten favorite songs I learned from his site that I go over as part of my every day drills. The backing...

Re: Mandolin on this British Sitcom?

By golly I think you're correct Jim. There's a much better view in another episode where he's noodling around in his livingroom and it looks much like the Blue Moon BM-07 Electro Acoustic Mandolin....

Re: What on earth are you doing?

It's funny you should mention out of time foot tapping while playing. I noticed I was doing the same thing myself just yesterday and attempted to correct it. I found out it's going to be a process.

    Re: Mandolin Stand

Thanks everyone. I have a band mate who used a Hercules stand for his bass. I'm going to see how it fits with my mandolin at tomorrow's gig. If that seems good, that's what I'll go with.
