    Re: 40 Somre (Danish folk)

Maybe I am hearing ghosts but to me the Schottis i turer and the nisse schottis (wonderful nyckelharpa!) sounds at least a couple quicker than yours. Maybe its just the way it is accented. The...

    Re: 40 Somre (Danish folk)

Beautiful tune and arrangement. I am not sure if it would be possible to dance a schottish to it though;) Normally a schottish is played in a fairly jumpy oompa type rhythm and a tad quicker than...

    Re: John Hardy

Nice version, and good recording work. The rhythm seems a bit off synch in the guitar/flute part, very nice banjo and uke playing though.

    Hi folks,
Unfortunately I havent been able to solve my dilemma for lack of funds, so I have listed the mandola for sale in the classified section under CBOM. Hopefully it will find an owner that can...

I play traditional music, but haven't started wearing traditional Danish folk attire yet. Maybe I should. :)

    Re: John Hardy

Yeah its standard tuning, the pot is boiling nixtamal - which is corn with lime to use for tortillas. This was in Mexico, up in the mountains, it gets cold and rainy but no snow - so the cabin works...

Re: Paul Brady's "Out the Door and Over the Wall"

I thought that was an Andy Irvine tune due to the weird rhythm signatures and balkan influence. ANd that is some really nice steel guitar playing by Arty Mcglynn!

    A Danish Hopsa

Since this forum is a little short on Nordic music I thought I would share this video of me playing a Danish Hopsa called "Drej skruen" (turn the screw). The Hopsa is a Danish dance style derived...

    Re: Best Celtic mandolin players?

Declan Corey is my favorite player all time. Andy Irvine's playing is amazing too, but more melodious, whereas Corey's is extremely energetic and rhythmical which I like.

Re: Old Time song accompaniment style

I tend to go for a very rhythmical approach myself, basically using the mandolin almost as a percussion instrument. I also tend to take inspiration from clawhammer playing.

Re: My first struggle with Bach

Someone else once noted that of my playing once, I wonder why I do that. I think I just tend to use hammer-ons for eightnote runs.

Thanks for the kind words all. The buzzing sound is actually caused by a loose brace in the instrument, unfortunately. It causes a buzz on the low g-string, and makes the soundboard unstable. It will...

Re: How do you tell someone they're not good?

The only way is if there is a session leader, then he can ask someone to take a break from playing or stay in the background for awhile. Otherwise its just no.
