Re: Old New Guy -Any second day tips?

Get a stand! Have that mando hanging on a stand next to the couch or your favorite chair so it’s RiGHT THERE to play every day.
Pick a song or two that you know pretty well and learn the chords for...

    Re: Illustrated Mandolin Chord Bible

Yes Mark, that’s what I meant- the shorthand notation would help my brain confirm quickly what my eyes were seeing.
    Great resource!

    Re: Illustrated Mandolin Chord Bible

    I really like it Mark!
One minor addition that would help my brain more quickly confirm what I’m seeing on the ones farther up the neck would be to also list them as 0-2-3-0, 5-2-3-0, etc.

I use mbruno’s method on my A’s. My F seems to ride okay on the scroll.

Fantastic! Congratulations on a great choice. I just bought one of Sonny’s A5’s a few months ago and couldn’t be happier.

    Re: NMC Bass preamp

Behringer makes some pretty amazingly inexpensive pedals that can run on a 9v battery, including a couple for bass (a tube modeling preamp and an equalizer at least). Might be worth trying to see if...

Re: Question on "tiers" of instruments

The ad appears to be gone so I can’t see what you ended up with… but as the recent buyer of a Morris I’ll say congratulations on a great choice!

Re: New Guy Looking For Recommendations

It’s hard to beat the value of either an Eastman or a Morris in your price range. I have both, and the Morris A4 oval is a lifetime keeper and fits really well for Buffett and old rock/country tunes.

    Re: NMD: Morris F5 #482

Congratulations! If I didn’t already have an F that one might have gone home with me a few weeks ago when I visited Sonny. Instead I bought the blue A4, the sound just blew me away.

Re: Oval hole mando comparable to a Kentucky KM-505?

If I hadn’t just bought the blue one a couple of weeks ago I’d be all over that one in the classifieds. It’s a fantastic deal. And yes, Sonny is a super nice guy.

Re: Oval hole mando comparable to a Kentucky KM-505?

I’m a huge fan of my new Morris A4, carved top oval. There’s a recording of it on my NMD post about it. It’s my favorite sounding mandolin I’ve played.
