  1. Re: What price level and up gets you a "lifelong keeper" mandolin

Exactly. Great post. What an honor to have met those legends!
  2. Re: What price level and up gets you a "lifelong keeper" mandolin

JR., I am like you in that I played a Rogue 50 dollar mandolin for a long time. I had owned and played various nice mandolins over the years, but life happened, needs for my daughters, wife, etc.,...

    Re: Mandolin Pricing?

Yes sir we ran out of chicken wings too. We ordered them and on two different occasions we did not receive them on our delivery truck. Finally got them again this week.

    Re: Mandolin Pricing?

Lol kinda like in the early days of Ford car production. You could get black or black as the color choice.

Waiting for a mandolin to be built definitely requires lots of patience. I am guilty of...

    Re: Mandolin Pricing?

I am still thankful that I was able to buy an all original (minus pickguard) 1924 Gibson Snakehead A Junior for $800 from Guitar Center a few months ago. Plays and sounds amazing!

    Prior to that...
  8. Re: 1989 Washburn M-3SW vs. New Eastman/Loar/etc

My experience with The Loar brand mandolins has been limited to the LM-600. Honestly I thought it sounded too quiet and thin. Again, I think the finish is too thick to allow the wood to fully...
  9. Re: 1989 Washburn M-3SW vs. New Eastman/Loar/etc

I would go with the Eastman 315. The finish on the Washburn is going to be thicker than the satin finish on the Eastman 315. I think the Eastman will sound better and resonate better than the...

    Re: Picks- Acrylic

Acrylic picks don't work for me. I have a V Pick Lite tradition, but I never play with it. I like the Blue Chip picks I have and the Bobby Osborne picks that work well for me.

Re: Best Wall Hanger For Mandolin

Gives me anxiety to think about hanging a mandolin on the wall. I was freaking out last week when my central ac went out. I was afraid the high temperature would cause problems with my 1924 Gibson...

    Re: Gibson F9 2004

You can play a different set of strings. Daddario EJ 74s will be a great choice. Nice mandolin! Congratulations!
  16. Re: Article: Famed Monroe Video from the Scott Wright Collection

Love watching Bill Monroe get his Loar F-5 back after Charlie worked his magic on getting it back together! I bet these two fine gentlemen are playing some mighty good mandolin tunes in heaven!

Did Howard use his Gibson Snakehead A Junior on both recordings? Or did he have another mandolin? I am curious to the whereabouts of his Snakehead A Junior. Anyone know?

    Howard Frye

Really enjoy listening to Howard Frye play the mandolin on his album Gypsy Mandolin. What a great talent he was playing his Gibson Snakehead A Junior mandolin.

Did Howard have any other albums?...

I wonder who has Red's Gibson A-4 mandolin? I know Sam Bush has Jethros Gibson. Sam recently played it on YouTube videos doing Jethro and Homer tunes.

    Re: Saturday night vinyl vault

Good stuff! I have been listening to Homer and Jethro a lot. And Jethro and Red Rector. Listen to them when I am at work and the gym. Makes the work day much better.
