    Re: Newbie to mandolin

I just got a "The Loar" LM-600 from them. I got a great price for it (through strategic bidding), and it shipped fast, well packaged with a good set-up. I'd definitely would buy another instrument...

Re: Whats up with dead strings at shops?

I'm using a set of tip cleaners for cleaning welders in my ongoing project to swap out all the nuts on my guitars (3 down, 2 to go). They're round and come in a range of sizes, so work quite well for...

Re: Whats up with dead strings at shops?

And a Guitar Center center employee would just stare at you in bewilderment, wondering what a "setup" was. Or why you're bothering them when you aren't buying anything.

I wouldn't go out of my way...

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Did they find that thing 5 feet under the foundation of their house? It's either that, or they dug it out of a fire.

I live this part: "TO A GOOD LUTHIER, THIS IS RESTORABLE." I'd beg to differ....

Re: Trying to decide on my first

Musician's friend does not setup their instruments, AFAIK. So you will have to budget in $50-$100 for a setup by somebody experienced with Mandolins (and it can be tough to find somebody that knows...
  8. Re: Buy first Mandolin; can't live without an F-Model.

I just got a LM-600 from them that plays great for a truly awesome price (a few scuffs here and there, but nothing too bad). And the instrument was well setup coming out of the box, which was a...

    Re: Kentucky KM620, worth it?

I'd say no. It's laminated as opposed to solid wood, and was a pretty entry-level on Kentucky's lineup (right around $500 or so it seems). You almost certainly can find more for your money elsewhere.

Re: One pick to rule them all

Clayton makes both bone and horn picks (I have a pack of the bone, and like them alot and plan on ordered the horn), Amazon has them relatively cheap ($4 for a set of 3). They also have brass,...

Re: One pick to rule them all

I keep meaning to try those. I love their Tortex picks, and they are all around my favorite guitar pick. I'm not just not totally in love with them on the mandolin. One of my other favorite pick is...

    Re: Keyboard Recommendations

Not necessarily a sign of quality, but it's definitely a sign that it's designed to be a professional instrument (or at least a very serious instrument). Anybody buy those instruments are going to...

    Re: Keyboard Recommendations

I forgot to mention that. The onboard speakers on keyboard universally suck. Definitely get a good keyboard amp, or a good pair of speakers or headphones.

Re: Need help picking out my new Mandolin

Need help picking out my new Mandolin

I've been playing mandolin for a couple years, and am ready to upgrade from my Fender. I'm looking at spending around $400-600. I could go up a bit from, if necessary, though the less money I spend...
