I have learned a massive amount of fiddle music playing violin and mandolin during the years I played in dance bands. GDAE tuning allows me to simply play without relearning additonal fingerings.
Can I ask what is the playing speed used by folks here?
There is lot's of good advice here. I played for contra dances years ago and speed as well as precision are both required. We , dance musicians that is, recommend getting the tune under your fingers...
I find a good instrument inspires me to practice longer and attempt new complexities in music.
