Hey You'all-
Well, I'm a total Petersen devotee. Why? After buying and trying all the big manufacturers OM's, I've come to the
decision that 22.5" scale with a body 14" x 3" is the perfect design...
OK...I had to do audio samples to demonstrate this. I just tuned it by ear- stagger and normal...really quickly..
ans recorded on my MP3 pod device- internal mic. It ain't great, but it shows the...
Greetings all-
Well, if you use a tuner, just tune the first string slightly lower than the center mark and the second string, just above the center mark- by the same amount. How much? Well,...
Right you are Clark-
I use only my ear...so I set them close to that spread.
You'll notice that the roll starts with just a slight difference. The technical name for this phenomenon is ...
http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Yes Steve-
I've always tuned my OM's this way. I have not spent much time with the new tril. I pulled my shoulder ligaments while...
Greetings all-
I just realized that I may be the only one that does this.
I tune the first string of the course/pair flat and the second sharp.
It is only about a 4-5hz difference, but that...

That Tril is living at my house!
I sort of meter my time with her. I'm
stretching out the "moonlight and roses" phase.
...
Golly, I hate to tell you this, but I must.
The Gold-tone and Trinity College are almost identical.
Price is the only reason to choose one over the other.
The bad news is, the fret spacing is...
Mary- Didn't see your post till now. This is all big fun for me. What a lovely group to be a part of...the OM gang.
You still have a Petersen III ehh? I can only imagine what the Tril Cittern...
Patrick-
Well, in a word - no. I've had the Tril 2 days now and I have yet to really bond with her. I know this is in total contradiction to the accepted wisdom out there, but I still like the...
Hi Mary-
Yup, she is here..and I figured it was related to yours.
Well, such a "complex" sound. I will actually have time today to sit with it and take a good listen. My Petersen is what I play...
http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Golly, I know this post is 4 months later, but reading
this string has gotten me REALLY excited about tomorrow's FedEx truck coming....
Greetings-
Well, I've owned the Mid-Mo, and the Moon 5 course should
be on it's way to me today (yup, I snagged it from the list).
(sorry!)
I can tell you that the Mid-Mo OM is very well made....
Greetings-
The Mid-Mo has GREAT action and playability, but low volume.
The Koreans are cheap...and intonation is impossible.
I'd suggest a used Petersen model I. You'd never need another
OM....
Greetings all-
I'm an OM die-hard like many of you, and have owned a weber sage, Mid-mo and Petersen (my fav).
I'm looking at Dave Freshwater's octave mandos and mandolas.
He is a great and...
Gotcha Paul-
I was just pondering that question...how to get
it into an amp. The sound hole and resonant top
indeed seem to be perfect for coupling feedback.
I've often been concerned that bridge...
You are right Paul! In less than 48hrs, it'll be here.
If the mid-mo and the Weber are different enough....
They might have to keep each other company.
I'm just so delighted with the stuff I can...
I have a mid-missouri M-70 Octave mando and I need
more level in order to play with other instruments.
Although it has beautiful tone, the small body on
Mid-mo limits the overall level.
I'd...

All your comments have been really helpful!
I'm snagging that Weber in the classifieds.
My Mid-Mo has a beautiful...

I'd like to move up to the Weber Sage....
