    Replacing bridge on Eastman MDA315

Hi all. I am curious for those that have this mandola, if you made a bridge swap. When i first got my Loar 600 mandolin, i had a Cumberland bridge made for it and i noticed a difference in sound,...
  2. Re: String gauges for Yank Rachell E tuning

Thanks! I probably have strings for octave as well, but was more interested in trying, hearing, what it sounds and plays like in a different key. It’s one thing to tune your mandolin a certain...
  3. Re: String gauges for Yank Rachell E tuning

Thanks ! I saw the chart with the string tensions and it never dawned on me that .03 was a 30 in string gauges. I probably have a few loose strings that will work for this and will let you all...

Hi all. I posted this in the Blues thread, but thought more folks here would have an answer .

I have searched here high and low, and have read advice on how he tuned his mandolin, but i never...

    Re: Gretsch American Clarophone Banjolin

Thanks! I will give it a try. Mine came with a set from 40 to 11, i also wouldn’t mind a little less volume.

    Re: Gretsch American Clarophone Banjolin

Would you have a gauge for those strings? I have a banjo in and would like to try a different gauge as well to see if it plays different.

  10. Re: Tina Turner, Nov 26, 1939 – May 24, 2023 RIP

She opened for the Stones in the early 80’s. I had really high bleacher type seats. But even from all the way up there you couldn’t mistake the legs moving around on the stage.

    Re: Reverb Scams

I listed two instruments about a month ago on reverb. Both received offers at full asking price, and i accepted them, but after a day of no response i looked closer at the offer and on the bottom it...

    Re: Electric tenors ?

I have had a few. Had a pickup put in my blue ridge Br40t, sounds acoustic like plugged in, also had eastwoods SG shaped tenor, two humbucker and a bigsby, it can crank tunes loud and distorted. ...
  13. Re: Chris Thile Acoustic Music Camp just announced

I just sent them an email. Seems like a place where i would be in a different stratosphere than any of the people mentioned, but a unique experience the same. Checking with my wife, and we may go....
  14. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Just to follow up, i ordered a replacement Kluson set. They arrived yesterday and were installed by me. One of the fw repairs i ever did successfully. Had a local instrument guru look at the old...

Re: I can’t find The Blues in my Mandolin

It’s got to be in there. Mine had it. But i cant find mike marshall in mine. There are a few courses that can help layout some simple blues scales in different keys, and once you have that...

    Re: Slide tenor tuning

Eastwood has a page on their site that shows a few different tenor tunings that Warren Ellis uses. They include what gauge strings work as well.
  17. Re: Another Eastwood, another hollow electric tenor

I got one of the cravens, and what a surprise now there are two to choose from. Both look sharp.
  18. Re: The sound of a tenor guitar vs a six string

I am drawn to tenors as well, originally because it was a different sound to add in with guitars to break things up. Even though i have had a few for about 10 years, it’s one of my weakest...
  19. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Hi. Great info! I ordered it from a builder called Mia. I wanted an octave for a long time but didnt have the money for what most decent ones start at. Plus she would make it whatever color i...
  20. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Waverly costs a bit more than i am willing to shell out. But i bet they are smooth in use. I am searching for another set of the Klusen with the black buttons.
  21. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

I learn something almost everyday here! Thanks. But i bet up still screw it up.
  22. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Worm over is a new term to me. I will take a look and see what i can find. When you say orientation, does that refer to which way they turn?
  23. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Good point. My head stock isn’t a normal shape either.
  24. Re: Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandol

Thanks! I will take the time to look at the spacing. If that is off, i am guessing i have to get individual tuners, or ream out the hole. But this is very helpful!
  25. Replacing Octave mandolin tuners, are they the same as mandolin?

Hi all. I have an octave that has had some really tight tuners since i got it about two years ago. I am looking to replace them as the way the hole octave was built, i am guessing they are not...
