Don is a really good guy, and I built a Octave Mandolin kit from him as well. I've thought of getting an undersized (baby style) guitar and converting it to an octave mandolin.
I think most baby sized guitars would work. Unless you're really good I wouldn't want to convert a Taylor, just because of the quality and cost of the instrument. But I'm guessing the sound would...
Definitely ask Mike, he'll be glad to tell you.
Another Dave who plays a Big Muddy/Mid-Missouri! I have two and I really enjoy mine. One is an all mahogany, and the other is maple sides with spruce top. I bought both used off eBay, and I don't...
That's sure an interesting build. Some temptation to get stupid and build a kit myself... maybe. But first, I'll finish my basement, which I'm in process of doing now.
Looks really nice.
The language looks Greek, but beyond that I have no idea.
I'd prefer one that fit better, so I guess I should have looked around for one.
Now you all have me thinking. I've just used guitar stands, but they're not ideal for my Big Muddy, as it tends to hang on the tuners. Might have to make an investment here.
Sounds like you got a great instrument there. My interaction with Mike has been nothing short of fantastic... and quite funny!
The cracked Mid-Mo jumped up pretty fast too. One thing about Big Muddy / Mid-Mo, the owner / builder is a great guy and can be contacted. He actually repaired an M-1 I picked up on eBay from a...
That's wild... you making a road trip to Pittsburgh?
This is an interesting discussion for a newbie to the Mandolin. On acoustic guitar, I tend toward thinner picks, but have been unsure on the Mandolin. I'm hearing a lot of people here prefer...
And we've got probably a dozen various hymnals around the house!
I like that thinking... even though my seminary training might say otherwise! :)
Thanks Billy. I sent you a PM regarding the RH technique video.
No Bluegrass at church, just basic hymns and contemporary worship... sometimes dated worship songs. I'm also the guitarist, so I'm not at the point I can do all Mandolin, but I like throwing it in...
Wow, thanks for this info, it's super helpful already. I've seen a few of Brad Laird's videos and lessons (and learned basic chords from his site). I've got a lot of good stuff to check out... ...
Hi all:
Well, I think it's time for an introductory post (I've posted a few other places already). I play guitar and recently got a Mandolin. It's an Ibanez M510a basic Mandolin. I got it off...
That's an incredible find! Enjoy.
Thanks for sharing these... very nice.
That looks like a very interesting pick holder... worth every penny!
If it was donated around 15 years ago, then it might be!
