Re: Tuner recomendation for full sun

This one looks impressive but may have too many articulating joints and break. I’ll write up my impressions after I receive it. ...

Re: Tuner recomendation for full sun

Last thought - I’ve always wondered why the Kindle high contrast greyscale screen technology (paperwhite?) hasn’t been adopted for use in chromatic tuners. I can see that pretty well in full...

Re: Tuner recomendation for full sun

A pet peeve of mine. I’ve sent a few notes to manufacturer’s and questioned if they’ve ever tried using their tuners outdoors? I don’t recall ever getting a reply. I like the minimalistic D’Addario...
  4. Re: Stringjoy Foxwood mandolin strings first impressions.

I’ve just put on a set of their coated and uncoated phosphor bronze mandolin strings on my two mandolins. Both sound quite good. I did not run into issues with missing strings in either pack. The...

Re: Use of Oak in instruments?

I also believe Lynn Dudenbostel is a fan of White Oak and has built several guitars using it.

    Re: German mandolin ?

Can’t comment on the origin, but that bridge has to be hard on the wrist.

Re: Jescar EVO Gold fretwire discontinued

There’s Stainless also as a long-life option. I’m not a big fan of it, but many are.

Re: Do you apply oil to your fretboard?

I use a little Walnut Oil maybe once every two years after getting the grunge off the board.

    Re: String advice sought

The D’Add XS (white pack) have lasted me 6-8 mos with daily play. By far, my favorite set but goodness they charge $$$ for them. I, like you, find changing strings as appealing as going to the...

    Re: Worm holes

I’m still looking for half of what I think I own. Something I’ve done for the past few years is to put a couple of spare picks in my cellphone case (the back). Comes in handy when the pocket thief...

    Re: ISO GA Luthier

Ronnie Griffin in Woodbine GA (just north of Jax) is one of my fav’s for fretwork and can usually handle setup work fairly quickly. If that’s close enough, I’d be happy to send you contact info.

    Re: Tune Title Request

I believe it’s Daley’s Reel. Many recordings of it around and a popular jam tune.

    Re: Mandolin Cases

My Bobelock ‘Arrow' is a good case but I’ve always felt the top flexes a tad bit more than I would like to see. I would not feel comfortable checking it as luggage. I do like the interior and the...

Re: Golden Gate Large Triangle X Stiff

Another big fan of the Radex picks. For me, the Radex 1.25 are a great inexpensive substitute to BC and others that are 20x the cost. I put a radius on one edge and find that gives me a little...

    Re: Adjustable bridge ideas

I contacted Bruce Weber a few months ago and he agreed to make this pair of “nutwheels" to install on a Cumberland bridge on my Tyler White A5. I believe these are essentially installed upside down...

Re: Is this ebony or rosewood?

FWIW, might want to check the centering of your bridge. Looks a little to the treble side, altho photos can be misleading.
  17. Re: Getting some work done on a Gibson mandolin in Illinois

Might want to check with Tyler White over in Bloomington IN. Can’t say enough good things about him and his work. http://www.whitemandolins.com

Guitars have been located - hopefully the individual(s) responsible will be caught and face trial for theft. I have removed the original "Stolen notice" posted on 3/3.

Re: D'Addario XS strings at 21 months.

I've had great experience as well with the XS on guitar and mando. I've got about 8 mos. (your 21 months is insane!) on my mandolin strings and play the tar out of it most evenings. I think...

  25. Re: I've owned an A-style for 72 hours and already hate the shape

Velcro to belly. ;) Actually, I've found a Tone-Gard helps. As others have mentioned, a strap can also reduce slippage.
