    Thanks for the info Tom. I didn't know 14.25" is often used for 10-strings these days. I have to say it seems right to me although I've only made two of them so far. Both are archtop mandolins....

    14.25" scale length. Lower course worked out beautifully using .053"s.

    I had an order for one last year but my customer changed his mind. I did manage to get the fretboard slotted so if I ever get the opportunity again I'll be ready. It was a 16"/14" scale. I imagine...

    thanks Clinton, yeah that 18mm plane is my favorite. I made inserts for my archtop carving cradle so I can use it for mandolins and mandolas. Makes carving a lot quicker and easier.

    Yes the soundholes are carved and it's purely stylistic. I didn't reinforce them underneath, didn't think it was necessary and (good eye!) they are flared out thicker. I just thought it would look...
