  1. Re: CGDA how is one supposed to play G#7 and A7 chords?

You might have a look at some other chord charts that offer some other options:

    Re: Looper tips?

This is really true - Ableton is quite good for that sort of use. Much better than a loop pedal.

Also true! And there's nothing wrong with improving one's sense of time.

    Re: Looper tips?

I've used a live recording loop station as a basis of a gig act for years, and older Boss RC20XL Loop Station with 2 pedals.

If you not using quantize and such, just looping live, like it do,...

Perhaps...or it was just not made as a strictly period instrument, but a functional one that looked OK enough.

    Re: What Tempo?

Many American fiddle tunes come from the Irish and Scottish tradition. admittedly I'm not an expert, but in ITM there is a thing called "strict tempo" when playing for dancers and dance competitions....

Hey, good for you and all the best!

Sue, what you describe about your school music experience is what I complain about...music ed that never addresses the basic issues of the inner ear.

    Re: Tab vs. Dots

That depends on how you were taught to read standard notation...which in the Italian tradition was a way to sing before you were ever given an instrument.

So I disagree, learning to sight-sing...

Re: Interesting "mandolino" by DW Snyder

When I worked the North CA Renn Faire in the 1990's I met many folks, including Turner and Hostetter, that were veterans of the original Southern CA faire.

It began in the early-to-mid 1960s.

I'm not sure...check the scale length and neck and see how short it looks. It may be in 4ths or 5ths. I'm curious.

  16. Re: Wound strings on a Brian Dean German bowlback?

Roundwounds on a bowlback are typically more characteristic of Italian schools as many if not most German classical musicians prefer flatwounds and those Wolle picks, but if you want a brighter tone,...

I'm curious about the taste and ethnic background of the wedding party.

All the Celtic tunes would work well for many folks...but my Italian family would likely prefer other music.

  18. Re: How would I play this? (Would I play this as written?)

Funny you suggest that - I'd do the reverse, since the next section begins in the upper range, and the top line of the ending puts one in position for that, whereas the bottom line sets one up for...

From my experience, pretty much all bowlbacks should be strung with extra-light strings, with 1st string at .009.

That is a classic choice. There's also the Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" in C major which would be a good option for the recessional.

Also other option would be the trumpet tunes or...
