How did this work out in the long run?
I noticed that many ads pointed out that the original case was included so I figured it mattered to some at least. I needed that extra justification for keeping it around :). Thanks.
I just picked up a 51 Martin O-18t. It came in what I assume is the original case. The case doesn't seem like it would have been very much protection even when new. It's beat up, part of the edging...
Anybody have a ball park idea what it costs to have a neck reset on a tenor guitar (martin 0-18t)?
Seems like a reasonable price.

As fox said, GDAE is fine on the blueridge - or any tenor. The tension is not higher than standard tuning and is actually more balanced across the strings. This because while the gauge is thicker,...
I'll add that though I am a beginner and don't spend a lot of time on the tenor, I think it sounds really good playing chords tuned GDAD. You may want to make the smallest string an 0.13 or 0.14 for...
0.12, 0.20, 0.30, 0.45 work well for me. This case is a perfect fit:

It looks back ordered on amazon (and that price is a...
The Blueridge BR-40T sounds good tuned that way. I had an octave but sold it and kept the tenor because to my ear it sounded better.
I'll second that. I use those gauges too. 0.12 works well for the E as well. 0.13 can go E or D for GDAD tuning.
I do love her playing in that song. But she's playing an octave mandolin, not a mandocello. I still don't think you could get a mandolin to sound decent a full octave lower though.
No direct experience, but this may work: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ashbury-5224-TG-Standard-Guitar/dp/B0072C8TYI/
Most people think the J80s are bit too light for the TC because it is a shorter scale. So for example the J80s may be fine on a 22.5 scale instrument, when you go shorter you have to have a heavier...
Thanks Don! That's exactly what I was looking for. It saves me wasting money on a set.
Does anyone have experience with using J76 (medium mandola) strings on a Trinity College Octave Mandolin? I put J72s on for now, but I'm just curious. I'll probably order a set to try soon but I'm...
You can get a better look at it in the beginning of this video. He doesn't play it though. But it helps see the scale in someone's hands....
Very nice! I've been enjoying the new release.
Does anybody know if that type of tailpiece is available for purchase anywhere? It sounds like it was designed by Nugget mandolins. I contacted them a week or two ago but haven't heard anything so...
Jim,
I had that issue. I called them and they sent me replacement sets and a t-shirt. They were very nice. They have changed their packaging too. At the least the replacements I got were different...
I'd choose the Eastman.
Fred,
Those are just rubber grommets that prevent overtones. Sometimes if you jam real hard on chords you can hear a ringing. Those are there to mute that. I could barely hear any ringing before and...
Kentucky KM-150 is under $300 to your door if you are in the US. Compare it's sound to the more expensive ones. I can't say it sounds worse than the expensive ones - at least in a youtube video.

Really nice sound.
I bought the album recently and enjoyed it on a driving trip we made. Good stuff.
You can do it by hand. I noticed that even though I don't plant my pinky, just brushing my hand over time caused a couple small shiny places. So with some polishing compound I just rubbed it out. I...
