Re: Always use a strap? Even when seated?

+1 on Brent's comments above: Always on the instrument, always around my neck when playing, sitting or standing.

Just always done it that way.

Which is, of course, the best reason to keep...

    Tenor guitar/Bouzouki combination

Andrew Marlin appears to have commissioned an instrument from Gil Draper that is a custom bouzouki neck on an archtop tenor guitar body. Standard mando tuning (GDAE), but the G and D are octave...

Re: Strings For Mahogany Back Mandolins

I really liked the Straight Up Strings when I had an older Weber Bitterroot with mahogany back and sides. Gave it a bit more presence than the EJ74's. That mando also benefitted greatly from a...

All sound fabulous. 1 and 2 are my (slight) favorites, in that order.

    Great playing, too, BTW...

Re: App for Lyrics and Chords?

Ultimate Guitar is probably the most widely used for lyrics and chords, and it has the features you mention. The app is not great - lots of pop-ups and ads, but less if you actually create and...

    MP3 Library - sorting?

May have covered this before, but couldn't find anything in a search.

Is there a way to get the MP3 library in some kind of sorted order? Either by Artist or (preferred) by Song Title?

    Most of...

    Re: Small amplifier

I have one of the older Loudbox amps, and the sound is great, but there's no way to mute just one channel. This looks like a great solution. Mackie has always had impressive stuff.

Re: Sarah Jarosz on Austin City Limits

It was a livestream of the ACL taping. Guess it didn't stay up very long.

Pickathon does the same thing - puts up each entire day's worth of performances for a few days then takes them down.

  16. Re: Familiarity and the appeal of a specific mandolin

It's kind of the opposite, for me. I rotate my two mandolins weekly(-ish), and whenever I pick up the one that's been in the bullpen, it's like a homecoming party. Next week, the same thing happens...

Re: Best Wall Hanger For Mandolin

I put a couple of these up last year (one of many covid projects) and they work nicely. Easy to install (once you find the stud) and the wood looks great. Holds a mandolin or acoustic guitar. I...

You are correct, the choices are vast. Several factors to know about what you want, including (but not limited to):

I like this one. The previous one I liked more in the performance below, but I personally prefer the sound of just them. And that's nothing against the band - I think they're great. But what drew...

Re: Mandolin Orange is now Watchhouse

I would never begrudge any artist to evolve as they will. Sometimes that happens slowly, sometimes it's in big jumps (Elvis Costello comes to mind).

The new song is interesting; I'm curious to...

Re: Mandolin Orange is now Watchhouse

Agree that's a good place to start. If you like that one, you can work your way toward now (Blindfaller, Tides Of A Teardrop) where there's more mandolin, or go the other way (This Side Of Jordan,...
