    Re: Antiqued/distressed instruments?

All this from a conch player?

Check out the book....you might come away enlightened. And entertained. It does require a few pages of reading though. ;)

+1 on the Red Violin. We've enjoyed that movie numerous times.

Also brings to mind Annie Proulx's "Accordion Crimes" which is highly recommended if you enjoyed RV.

Alan...and Carrie... these bar type tensioners were standard on DeMeglio bowlbacks, of which 1000s were imported into the UK, as well as some other Neapolitan makers. DeMeglio also had numerous...

Looks like the whole top is giving in above the soundhole like one (too) often sees on bowlbacks.

    Re: 1959 Sorkin/Stradolin Catalogue Pages

Not meaning to diverge, but I wonder if Diego Garber or one of our NYC bubs could give us some lowdown on the Sorkin concern.

This catalog cover from 1964 is amazing. Poindexter dude getting his...

    Re: 1924 Gelas double-top flatback

I know that's right. Pretty adventurous pricing.

Our friend, Martin, has one that he fiddled with into playability. He described the challenge of setting it up with that particular bridge...

I've got one of these, Jo, in need of some repair attention. Same model I believe.

I'm appreciating the coincidence of a number of French mandolins up for discussion across various threads at the...

That one is particularly creepy, Jill.

A knock off of a Gibson snakehead A but bearing a knock off brand name of another venerable midwest builder.

Wow. A couple of old white dudes gassing off.....:(

Helpful to note that not everyone is so "unsure". Whether they like it or not.

Maybe if some old white dudes play some of it? ...

As a Southerner, I gently offer that I often find northern accents to be much less than gentle on the ear. In all their variety.

    Maybe.

Re: 1920ish Martin built? For S.S. Stewart

    Re: Bowl back identification

Jim, that double lobed headstock is pretty common on Catanese mandolins. I wouldn't feel comfortable making an attribution based on that detail alone.
