    Re: What kind of Mandolin

Janet Davis Music (before they went out of business) used to sell these small diameter geared banjo tuners. I believe they were made in Germany. They probably would have fit.

    Re: Harmony h35

It's not much of a guess actually. The model was introduced in 67 but those tuners weren't used until sometime around 1970. They were out of business by 1975 but they ceased production before that....

Re: Your favorite mandolin tuning tips?

I'm not sure this matters much because at any given time there are only three mandolins that are in tune in the entire world and David Grisman owns two of them.

Re: Who is Behind "The Loar" Company?

"The Loar" brand name is owned by The Music Link. The Kentucky brand is owned by Saga Music. They are different companies and I know one of the owners of one of the two and I seriously doubt there is...

    Re: Breedlove tailpiece replacement

If your concern is scratching the top lay the string envelope under the tailpiece for the string to ride on while changing the strings. Any change you make will most likely involve drilling some new...

Keep in mind that you may not be able to search every PDF you come into contact with. Some PDF's are created by creating an image of the text. Since it didn't start out text based those are not...

Re: Early Gibson - Lefty conversion

If you're talking about the fretboard, early Gibson mandolins have flat fretboards, no radius. Steve at Cumberland should be able to fill you in on what you need.

Re: Can you identify this brand logo?

Silvertone was a Sears brand name. The mandolin was built by Kay of Chicago. Sears didn't manufacture anything. The one you linked to was made by Kay for Sears as well. These were sold under many...

Re: over vs under tuners why?

The best explanation you'll find is on the late Paul Hostetter's site lutherie.net. Take a look at this.

The diagrams and dimensions of most tuners can be found online. What brand are you looking...

  20. Re: Can I get-rid of the end-pin on Godin A8?

The screws should be holding the tailpiece in place. The end pin simply goes through it. There are tailpieces that have been used for decades that don't have an end pin hole.
  21. Re: Vintage Two Point Carved Top Mandolin - Looking for informati

I think it's hitting the seam and not the tail block. If it was me I'd sculpt the bottom of the tailpiece a bit to shorten it up, drill a new hole and have the base replated.
