    Re: Harmony h35

It's not much of a guess actually. The model was introduced in 67 but those tuners weren't used until sometime around 1970. They were out of business by 1975 but they ceased production before that....

    Re: What kind of Mandolin

The tailpiece looks German to me as well. Those banjo pegs would be a bear to keep in tune.

Nobody has ever had a definitive answer to these numbers. The part to the right of the H is generally accepted as the model number, the numbers to the left have been assumed to be some part of their...

Yup. The only similarity I see is the fact that they both have strings.

Re: Your favorite mandolin tuning tips?

I'm not sure this matters much because at any given time there are only three mandolins that are in tune in the entire world and David Grisman owns two of them.

Re: Who is Behind "The Loar" Company?

"The Loar" brand name is owned by The Music Link. The Kentucky brand is owned by Saga Music. They are different companies and I know one of the owners of one of the two and I seriously doubt there is...

    Re: Breedlove tailpiece replacement

If your concern is scratching the top lay the string envelope under the tailpiece for the string to ride on while changing the strings. Any change you make will most likely involve drilling some new...

Re: How to search through a big PDF?

Keep in mind that you may not be able to search every PDF you come into contact with. Some PDF's are created by creating an image of the text. Since it didn't start out text based those are not...

Re: Early Gibson - Lefty conversion

If you're talking about the fretboard, early Gibson mandolins have flat fretboards, no radius. Steve at Cumberland should be able to fill you in on what you need.

Re: Early Gibson - Lefty conversion

Even if it had tone bars (F hole model) and you converted it to left-handed it would be OK. You'd never hear the difference. As has been stated you need a left handed nut, a left-handed bridge...

    Re: Need parts

There is some good news here. The tailpiece cover is there. If the tailpiece has all eight pins left then the tailpiece and the cover are worth more than the carcass of the mandolin. Depending on...

    Re: Need parts

The other side is don't automatically expect the back and sides to be solid. Kay was selling laminated sides and backs as a feature as far back as the thirties.

Re: Better machines give better sustain?

When you make a change to your instrument and pay good money for it then I would expect you to hear a difference. Unfortunately others might not hear the same difference.

It was built by Kay of Chicago, one their body shapes, one of their headstock designs. Nothing really unusual about it.

I was in a Guitar Center near me that had this Gretsch and a Rogue mandolin hanging on the wall. The Rogue sounded and played better.
