Aside from the higher end Eastman and Kentucky [new] models, and maybe some 'A' in that middle tier, you might be on the lookout for a used Northfield F5S. I got mine in the lower half of the $2K...

It works on my iPhone using the Chrome browser, because it lets you download the actual MP3 to your Files, and you can play it there. It doesn't work with Safari on my iPhone.
:disbelief: :crying:
;)
I appreciate the effort, but that seller has no feedback since 2016, and it says they are "away." It's only listed as "watch" and not actually for sale, so I'd probably take a pass on that one.

You might try the method some use, where you pull the string semi-taut (between the nut and bridge), then wind it *up* around the post and at the last push the end through the hole in the post, vs....
Ah, I was looking for F-style cases. (Pardon my bias!) The one pictured at Elderly is pretty clearly shaped only for an A-shaped mando, and it looks like the same one in the small picture at Boyd's....
The Superior mandolin case has been "unobtainium" for some time, AFAIK.
I can't comment on the merits, but ABS was pretty good until fiberglass came along. I would say ABS is usually a bit thinner because it's simply molded plastic, and consequently probably a bit...
Maybe you could post some pictures of the case and neck joint. (You'll want to take them to show to the vendor, in any case.)
I only have the '19 model I got used, so don't know what differences...
The short answer is, I suspect, "it depends." :)
As suggested, the coefficient of friction is one of the factors/coefficients in the equation, and like many physics problem, it has something with...
Yeah, that torch & wire Collings is pretty. Glad they're not right next door, and when I do get out that way (to Old Settlers) they're closed when we make our grocery run :)
Ok, I am not a mechanical engineer, but I have been doing a bit of reading and research, and unless you have a frictionless connection/surface where the string wraps around the post, the tension does...
Define "small(er)" please! I've never seen anything like that. (It looks like the kind of thing that could make your fingers smaller pretty quickly, to me!)
And, what kind of RPM does it run at,...
It looks like that builder will provide a listing for previously sold mandolins, which might be the most direct way. No idea if he takes a comission, but at least I'd guess he could provide a pricing...
Mine is not loose. There's a bit of space around it, so when I have the Tone-Gard on it it still fits easily, but with the padding over the tailpiece and neck there is absolutely no "thudding" if I...
Dredging this up because I saw that D'Addario has announced 80/20 XS strings for acoustic guitar. On their "bright - mellow" scale, they place the 80/20 set closer to the middle, vs. the...
Just from observation, it seems 1 1/8" is the most common width on current f-hole models, and many of the ovals as well. Why Eastman persists with the 1 3/32" width is a little baffling (especially...
+1 And, they're PB, and possibly the most common strings in use, though I have no data to back that up. But, you can almost always find a set in your big-box guitar shop, and they're cheap compared...
USD?? You'd be better off (IMO) getting a new, properly setup entry Kentucky from some place like TMS.
In the meantime, you might search around here for the setup PDF (by Rob Meldrum) and learn...
Wow. That's crazy impressive.
The 415 has mahogany back and sides vs. the almost universal maple in other F models. All else being equal, it will (or should!) sound different from a 315.
I haven't played one, but before an...
According to D'Addario, this is "natural" for these picks. Well, given that it's not a defect, I am going to give it a spin around the block and see if it does start to flatten. Barring some epiphany...
That was great!
Click on the "Go Advanced" button, and then use the icon on the bottom right. You can get the link to put in there from the Share (or Copy Link) button on your SoundCloud track. (The track probably...
I've been hearing about casein for some time, and having discovered that PayPal lets me use credit card points for some things, I sprung for one. It arrived today, and my first question is, are they...
