Re: Jacob Jolliff, Standards Vol 1

It really is a fantastic album. If you haven't heard it, check out his duo album with Grant Gordy where they play a bunch of jazz standards.

Don, do you just take tumeric pills or what? Curious what your tumeric regimen is. Thanks!

Hey all, my bluegrass band recorded a few videos last week in an effort to start booking some gigs. Here's one our banjo player edited real nice. Hope you enjoy!

    Re: Slow down software

That's interesting as I only use the mobile version, which is considerably cheaper than the desktop version. I use it with my Apple Music subscription and it works great for what I need it for:...

Re: Mike Compton Rare & Fine

I just googled Skip since I have been wanting to get some of his mandolin-centric albums and looks like he has all of them available on his website! Gonna have to pick those up!

Such a good album. One of my favorite parts about it is hearing Dom play a bunch of Dawg licks on the Grisman tunes. You can tell how much respect and reverence he (and Ric) have for his music....

Re: Mike Compton Rare & Fine

Hey thanks, Scott. Yeah I remember those posts. Thanks, I should have specified that I haven't seen any cafe members post their thoughts about the album since it was officially released.

    Cheers!

    Mike Compton Rare & Fine

I'm surprised nobody has started a thread about Mike's new album already. Just got my autographed copy in the mail two days ago and I've listened to it about 5-6 times so far. I can't find the words...

Re: Punch Brothers "Hell on Church Street"

    ....and don't forget Noam!

The more I listen to this album the more I enjoy it. I love just about every song on it and it definitely has a theme running through it where one song transitions into...

    Re: Slow down software

I have always wondered that. Wish it was like Strum Machine where your account is the same on pc vs. smartphone or whatever.

Re: Punch Brothers "Hell on Church Street"

Right there with you. I'm a huge Punch Brother fan and love all their albums and have listened to them a ton of times. But this Gold Rush is.....just not enjoyable to me.
    I like all the more...
  17. Re: Tony Rice 'I've Waited As Long As I Can' on the mandolin

This is so cool, Jake! I've been wanting to try and transcribe some Tony solos to see how they work on the mandolin so this will give me a nice kick in the pants trying to learn this one. That Nugget...

What a legend he was. RIP J.D. and hope Tony and you are playing some old New South or Bluegrass Album Band repertoire together. Crazy to think it was almost exactly a year ago (one day off) that...

Re: Kimble neck - forearm pain

I played a Collings MT for many years and just recently got a Northfield A5 special and had the same exact thing happen to me. The Northfield neck is certainly thicker, but not uncomfortable. But...

  21. Re: Focal Point Presents | Mike Compton + Joe Newberry

I guess he wasn't playing it that much before since the tuners didn't work too good (what he said in the video above). I wonder if Gilchrist made that one with the super hard maple like he made his...
  22. Re: New Bela Fleck Album out - My Bluegrass Heart

Oh yeah, I smile every time I hear that lick that Dominick, plays! It's "The Girl I Left Behind Me."
  23. Re: New Bela Fleck Album out - My Bluegrass Heart

You forgot Dominick Leslie, who plays on 5 of the 19 tracks. He has one of my favorite mandolin breaks on the album (Baptist Pumpkin Farm) and plays on Round Rock on the album.

    Man, this album is...
  24. Re: Mandolin Tasting: Gibsons, Buckeye, Duff, Northfiled

Probably listened to this with my Airpods at least 10 times. #1 is definitely my favorite and I think it's the Loar, maybe #2 is the Fern? Really like #6, too, and think that that might be the Big...
