  1. Re: String Gauges For Cittern, changing Unisons to Octaves

I went to the MacDonald Patent Universal String Gauge Calculator page today but there was supposed to be a pop up to click on for the calculator, but I found none. I'd still like to figure out how to...

    Re: jenny pluck pears

Here is Leveret's version of Jenny Pluck Pears, it is said to be a combination of Jenny Pluck Pears and Bobbing Joe, both from Playford's 1651 edition. I'm not sure I agree but I do like this...
  3. Re: String Gauges For Cittern, changing Unisons to Octaves

Sorry, the tuning is DGDAD. I originally had 10's on the top course but they were a bit floppy so I increased them to 12's.

    Re: New Cittern

Lovely instrument plus I like the idea of two octaves on the low C, I'd like to hear what that sounds like.
  5. Re: String Gauges For Cittern, changing Unisons to Octaves

Currently my string gauges are 52/52 39/39 30/30 18/18 12/12. The scale length is 25.5" I want to change the lower two courses to octaves.
  6. String Gauges For Cittern, changing Unisons to Octaves

I'm not sure this is the right forum maybe the Builders forum would be better?

I want to change the two lowest courses on my Forster cittern from unisons to octaves but I don't know how to...

Re: Octaves: Guitar Bodied or Not?

I've owned a Flatiron, a Trillium, a Weber Bridger and two Sobell octave mandolins and one GOM, a Weber Bitterroot Octar and although the Octar was loud and powerful I prefer the more focused sounds...

    Re: Sobell Bouzouki-Worth it??

I have had the privilege of owning four Sobell's, two mandolins and two octave mandolins and each one was fantastic in fit, finish and playability with the signature Sobell tone in spades. I was...

    Re: Mandola 17" Scale & EFT76 Strings

Well I ended up answering my own question, I tried the EFT76's on my 17" mandola and although I love the sound of the strings, ultimately the increased tension had a negative effect on playability. I...

    Mandola 17" Scale & EFT76 Strings

I have recently reacquired a mandola and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with D'Addario EFT76 strings and a 17" scale length. I'm a big fan of flat wound strings but still can't get...

    Re: New Mandola!!

It looks to me like someone already modified the nut, the grooves are already too deep and the string spacing is off as well. The strings look custom as well, most mandola string sets have a wound...

Re: Sobell Mandolin- outlets and prices ?

I remember seeing 5 up for sale this year, one on Ebay, one at Elderly, one at Gryphon, one here at the cafe and one on Stefan's site. The one on Ebay was a 10 string from the mid 90's and went for...

Bratsche that was great! Excellent playing and video. Now I want to play Der Spiegel on the mandola, like I needed a reason to buy another instrument.

Re: Hard or Flight Case for a Tenortone?

That's a good idea Eddie, that would be way cheaper than a custom case. My tenortone fits in my Caltom case which was made for a OM guitar so any OM size hard case would do. You would have to fill in...
