  1. Re: Effects of Heavier E and A String Courses

Please report your findings about tonal changes with the heavier strings after you give them a try. I never seem to be satisfied with the A strings tone on most mandolins.

Re: Mando (and why to quit callin it that...)g

Perhaps the takeaway from all this is that the product Mando with its active ingredient (alpha-hydroxy acid) is actually effective in removing cat urine odor from a mandolin case.

    Re: String numbering

Yes indeed and then there is the harp player to deal with. It only makes sense for the fattest string to have the fattest number and the thinnest one the thinnest number. They figured this out 400...

Re: Is this anything of concern?

I have and have had mandolins with very similar looking finish cracking in one place or another. Thes are common on older instruments, you need not worry further with it.

    Re: Gemtone Mandolins?

On first glance I feel you are correct in your suspicions regarding quality. Does the neck attach with screws? Nevertheless, if the action is decent and since it has a pickup, it may do a fine job...

Re: Is this ebony or rosewood?

The difference can usually be noticed in the size of the pores in the wood. Ebony has very small, tight pores whereas the rosewood will show larger, longer pores. Give the fret board a good...

  21. Re: Is Gibson only making two models of mandolins now?
