    Re: Good pick for starters

FYI, last I heard, the travelling pick sampler is defunct. Or lost. Or not lost but not found. It was a great project and it lasted a lot longer than cynics like me expected it to.

    Re: Paypal

If you have TurboTax 2021 software, open it and search for "1099-k personal items". You should be able to find a very recent query (7 days old as of today) by jmitch04 on this. The reply will give...

Re: A tale of two [Lyon and Healy] C's

I've been trying to figure out just what exactly is a "pull-out rest". Can't. Please help.

Is it something like a "murphy bed"? :disbelief:

Re: Total Newbee looking for info

Eastman and Kentucky are the most frequently mentioned "starter" instrument bands here. Of the two, my personal preference would be a 300 series Eastman. Get it new from one of our sponsors. Or used...

That was indeed interesting. BTW, I think that was a soprano saxophone.

I've been wondering why there is a paper clip stuck on to the tailpiece cover. And I am tempted, regardless of why the paper clip is there.

Hey Journeybear - is that new avatar a group photo of the Pogo bunch? They are still cogent. And memorable.

    Re: 2 old Mandolins

I paid $50 for mine, but it did look like it had been hung in a barn for about 50 years. Cleaned up nicely though, except for the cracks. Sounds pretty good.

    Re: 2 old Mandolins

The one on top with the unusual machine heads is a northern german style waldzither, possibly made by Böhm. You can google waldzither and find several interesting sites devoted to them. If yours is...

    Very nicely done.

And here is another familiar Christmas carol using a tune that is unfamiliar to me. Thanks for opening my ears a bit farther!

    Re: trouble strumming

The high string tension and short scale of a mandolin make barre chords very difficult compared to, say, a guitar. When I watch pros playing backup, I rarely see them use barre chords. But if you...

    Re: Red Valley Em Mandolin

James is still making them as of my last contact (June 2021). He has a website, so Google Red Valley mandolins and you'll find him. He makes a decent flattop. I have one. It has a nice big fat tone....

Re: Reverb to start collecting tax IDs

I think basically we are expected to file a schedule SE if we get 1099-K . If I don't file one, IRS is probably going to be very interested in me. Darned if I do and darned if I don't.:( But at least...
  24. Re: Lyon & Healy model A - appreciated more every day

Well, I'll complete the set -- I really REALLY like my L&H Model C, especially with the TI mittels Louise recommended.

But I admit, I do ogle the B's and A's.
  25. Re: Is there an easy way to convert TAB to notation?

Actually, Tabledit can import an ASCII tab file like the one linked in Matt's post. It is pretty persnickety and awfully frustrating if you don't do it often enough to know all the tricks and traps....
