Spencer worked with Gerald Anderson, who was Wayne Henderson's assistant for a while before striking out on his own.

Re: Just tried a Blue Chip pick on my mandolin

Once I found D'Andrea Plec 1.5mm picks, my pick hunt ended. I tried a buddy's Blue Chip, and it didn't really do it for me. And usually, I like the expensive stuff.203058

Re: Anybody dealt with Vintage Gintage

Couldn't swing the one he had, so I bought a Kentucky KM-1000B. I think I chose wisely. 202847
  5. Re: What Are Some Good Options in the $2-3k range?

I got me a KM-1000B, too, but a new one. They sell in the low to mid 2000s. Absolutely love it.202675

    NMD - MAS has struck

After exhaustive online prowling, I settled on the Kentucky KM-1000B. Boy howdy!
Now I just have to prove myself worthy of this quality instrument!

Re: Whatever Happened to Birdseye Maple?

Birdseye worked great on this custom Martin size 0 guitar I had made when I retired.

Re: Anybody dealt with Vintage Gintage

I've since found out he was one of the Buffalo Brothers Music Shop brothers. I used to have a custom Martin commissioned by them.

The deal will proceed. Thanks, everybody.

    Anybody dealt with Vintage Gintage

Looking at something on GBase from "Vintage Gintage", Bob Page.
Anybody have experience buying there? Would you recommend?
    Thanks.

Re: Gigs Cancelled - Health and Safety

My Celtic group is supposed to play at a senior center in about an hour, but they cancelled all events through April.

    The new normal.

Re: Do You Play ALL of Your Mandolins Regularly?

My 1920 Martin A goes to the Celtic jam with me.
My Loar 590 MS goes to the bluegrass jam.
The StewMac goes out now and then, but it's definitely in 3rd place.

    Re: Martin mandolin case

I bought a case from Elderly that, sadly, they no longer carry. It is a tweed pattern, simple A-shaped case that's probably ideal for Gibson A mandolins, but a little large for my 1920 Martin...

Re: Best Android Tablet >10" for Sheet Music

That's why I added the additional storage. JPEGS seem to open quicker than PDFs on my Kindle - an advantage in a jam circle where we play from a large book of tunes.

Re: Best Android Tablet >10" for Sheet Music

Kindle HD Fire works fine for me. All my music is in jpeg form. Rather than use wi-fi dependent Dropbox or the like, I added a 64 gig micro SD card to the Kindle so I can store locally. Loads of...

Yes. I should. I'll work on that.

And I love your misprint - Gobsons. I will refer to them as Gobsons from now on. ;)

Re: Happy 100th Birthday 1920 Martin Style A

Light, chime-like. I use it in our Celtic sessions here. A classical player would like it, too. Not Gibson-like at all. A much more delicate sound.

    Happy 100th Birthday 1920 Martin Style A

According to UMGF member and Martin expert hutton99, mandolin serial number 7272 was stamped about January 16, 1920 and was shipped to Henry Spahr in Jersey City, NJ on February 20, 1920. I wonder...

That GHS set is pretty much all that's out there. But, La Bella makes some, too. Theirs are the same gauges. Just Strings has both.

I have a 1932 Martin T-17 that has GHS strings on it. They have...

Re: Don MacRostie & Red Diamond mandolins

I built a StewMac style A kit that he designed. It was my first build, but his video made it pretty easy. Too bad StewMac doesn't have those kits anymore. They do still have the F kit, though.

    Re: Eastman 315 MD & Loar LM-520

Check out the Loar 590, as well. It's usually about the same price as the 520, but has a lighter finish on it, which I think makes it sound even better. When I first got mine, a friend who plays a...
