I bought it in 2003, and played the heck out of it for four years, then I got married and priorities got shifted around and haven't played since.
Mike, it is in the archive. http://www.mandolinarchive.com/perl/show_mando.pl?2797
I haven't posted in a while, years actually, and some of you haven't seen this.

I bought it from the niece of the original owner. She...
I have a Larson too, branded Maurer. I can find next to nothing about them on the internet.
It is a great compliment to my A2Z.

When held in a typical playing position, the logo orientation becomes horizontal!
Where is that "compulsive purchase" thread,fatt-dad? I posted to it many times, but now I can't find it and I have an "issue" I wish to ask about.
I didn't know how lucky I was when I bought this one for $1800 about three years ago. It was a one-owner instrument, found and ebay-ed thirty years after she died.
Mine "smells scrumptious" too....
I've got the DVD, and notice that they like to capo really high up, like the 7th fret.
There is somewhere you can download (legally) a 2 cd live set, not separated into tracks, but 2 50 minute...
My 1923 Lloyd era A2-Z smells similar to my 1931 L-00 Gibson guitar.
There's not much in common with the materials except the red spruce top and hide glue. Different kerfing, case materials, back...
That is interesting, because my 1923 A2-Z will stay in tune for days, if not weeks. Maybe it is the strings. I use TI's.
Chris Thile prefers super low action.
I recently dug up some recorders, soprano, alto, and whatever is lower than alto. I've had these for 30 years and never learned how to play them. I just messsed around, sounding pseudo-Irish. Now,...
I ran a search and could find NO topics where these two were compared. Is the "search" broken or has no one ever asked how the two compare to each other?
I have an early '80's Flatiron N-1. It is...
He said the "F47" was blurry...
Also, there is a Harmony discussion board. As Paul said 99% of the interest is in the guitars, but they have a lot of devoted Harmony fans and I'm sure someone knows about the mandolins. Harmony Group
Harmony's dating scheme was S or F (spring, fall), then the year, so F47 would indicate it was made in 1947.
I would have LOVED to have that mandola, but I didn't check this thread in time. If anyone knows one for sale please PM me.
The Tennesean Brief said:
He gained minor fame for reassembling the Bill Monroe’s smashed 1925 Loyd Loar mandolin.
I would have changed the word "minor" to major"
How long is a peice of string?
TI's are great on my Gibson, but awful on my Larson Bros.
Using Photoshop, I overlaid the original Robert Johnson photo on top of the new photo. RJ's L-1's logo position is slightly higher.
Here they are side by side:...
My Gibson A2Z is 5/64 - G, 1/16 - E.
The Flatiron 1-N is 1/64 higher, 3/32 to 5/64.
Both have the same strings, TI Mittles, yet, oddly, the Gibson feels medium and the Flatiron feels light,...
Notice how the serial number is "conviently" obliterated?
What is your take on the lable in my soundhole?
I've had this mando for two years. It is my "go to" instrument, although is technically in the lowest echelon of my collection.
...
I always end up going back to Thomastics Mittles. They have that nice, dry woody sound, plus feeling great to the fingers.
Jazzmando.com is the best place to get them. Mine always comes with a...
